David Otunga Defends Referee’s No-Disqualification Call in Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk
Lawyer and former WWE star David Otunga has publicly defended referee Rod Zapata’s decision not to disqualify Roman Reigns during his match with CM Punk. Otunga argued that the official’s on-the-spot judgment was appropriate given the chaotic nature of the bout and the need to preserve the integrity of the finish.
Speaking from both a legal and in-ring perspective, Otunga emphasized that referees must make split-second calls that balance the letter of the rules with match flow and safety. His comments sought to explain why Zapata’s discretion in the moment was the correct course for that specific contest.
