Jacob Fatu Calls Tongan Death Grip “Sacred” and Says He’s Honoring Haku
Last week on WWE SmackDown Jacob Fatu and the Usos referred to the Tongan death grip as a “sacred” hold, and Fatu doubled down on that sentiment in an interview with Peter Rosenberg. He explained that his bond with Tonga Loa runs deep — Loa even paid for Fatu’s bed when he first moved to Florida — and that loyalty and family make the move more than just a wrestling maneuver.
Fatu also tied the hold to wrestling lineage, noting his father Tama once teamed with Haku (Tonga Loa’s father) as The Islanders in the WWF. He said bringing the Tongan death grip back is a tribute to Haku and the family connection, insisting the name and tradition remain unchanged because the move is sacred to them.
