John Cena Teases “History-Making” Announcement at WWE Backlash
John Cena confirmed he’ll appear at WWE Backlash in Tampa on Saturday, May 9, and tweeted that he plans to break “history-making news” that will “change the WWE experience” for Superstars and fans. The tease lines up with WWE’s phased rollout of its new Club WWE membership program, which Cena is helping to promote; a waitlist is open now and the gold-tier annual membership is touted to include ticket presales, exclusive merch and behind-the-scenes content, though pricing has not been announced.
Backlash’s card includes World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns vs. Jacob Fatu, Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, IYO SKY vs. Asuka and other matches, with Cena’s announcement expected to be a focal point of the show. Cena, who hosted WrestleMania 42 and resides in Tampa, told fans to catch the reveal live or via the ESPN app as WWE continues to build momentum for its new fan-facing initiatives.
