Lil Yachty and Trick Williams Reveal Gingerbread Man, Ambush Sami Zayn on SmackDown

On Friday’s WWE SmackDown in Jacksonville, Trick Williams was holding a moment of silence for the Gingerbread Man when Sami Zayn interrupted, berating the tribute and vowing to reclaim the United States Title at Backlash. Zayn’s exit turned violent as he cheap-shotted Williams, only to be blindsided when the Gingerbread Man rose from the casket, removed his head to reveal Lil Yachty, and used a candy cane kendo stick to floor Zayn. Williams recovered and finished Zayn with the Trick Knee as the segment closed with Williams and Yachty standing tall.

The angle followed last week’s segment in which Zayn destroyed the costume and commentator Joe Tessitore later announced the cookie had “passed on.” Reports surfaced that creative received “notable pushback” over the heavy use of the character, with some calling the concept outdated, but WWE used the surprise reveal to reinsert Lil Yachty — who Zayn had previously taken out — into the SmackDown storyline heading into Backlash.
