Winner: Francesco Akira, by pinfall (gains 2 points; Kasai earns 0)

Akira just proved he can outdo the Deathmatch junkie at his own game! But with rounds left to play, will Kasai still reach those semifinals?

As for Akira, he catches his breath before getting the mic. Akira asks the fans (in Japanese), “Where’re you all going? Oh, you don’t understand English, so fine, leave.” And indeed, in English, Akira tells Kasai, “It took everything I had in my pocket to beat you. You are truly the legend of deathmatch wrestling, but when you step in the ring with me, it’s a different game, baby!” Zane applauds, as do some of the fans. Akira tells the fans, “Zanen! <Too bad!> You thought Kasai would whoop my ass today, but look what happened! Look to my dear friend, Zane Jay, and me are victorious today in Numazu.

“And now, the road doesn’t stop here. Because I am gonna go straight to the final, and win the Best of the Super Juniors, because I AM the Crown of Fire, Francesco Akira, and I AM the United Empire!” Akira throws the mic down while he turns the heat up, but will he stay red hot until he’s the one holding up the trophy?

My Thoughts:

Another great night for BOSJ, and I can’t really say “round” because we got one round for B Block and then the start of one for the A Block, very interesting scheduling going on here. Great stuff in that main event, I didn’t expect both Akira and Kasai to bleed, or for Zane to take skewers to the head, but that all added a little something to that match. Great win for Akira, that was also a little surprising. But this does make A Block a bit more complex, as Akira is gaining ground while Kasai is still in the running.

And great stuff in B Block as some of the traffic jam is clearing up. Despy and Sho being frontrunners right now, that works out given their connections to Douki and how that’s kinda the underlying story. If Sho were to win this whole tournament, it’d basically be a Finger Poke of Doom scenario with Douki. Therefore, Sho should be teased as a possibility to up the drama of the semifinals and finals. Despy owes Douki some payback from their previous title match, and that’s pretty obvious heat that a lot of these entries have going for them, too. Despy probably has the most of that, though, given their history in Suzuki-Gun, so he’s most deserving of the opportunity.

My Score: 8.9/10
