The American Nightmare has said it himself, he’s easy to find, hard to beat! But Der Ring General says he has fulfilled promise after promise to choke out, tap out, and retire legends. Gunther now promises to take this title from Cody and sanctify the ring, will he make it four for four? Or will Cody still be undisputed?

The introductions are made, the belt is raised, and we see who sets the tone for this Clash In Italy!

The bell rings and the fans fire up as the two circle. They tie up, Gunther waistlocks but Cody wrenches, only for Gunther to wrench out. They clinch, end up on ropes, and the fans duel as the ref counts. Cody backs off, does a cartwheel, and the fans cheer. Cody eggs Gunther on, but Gunther stays cool. The two circle, feel things out, and knuckle lock. They tie up, go shoulder to shoulder in a Test of Strength, and Gunther powers Cody down to his knees. Cody fights up, Gunther puts him in the corner, and the ref counts again. Gunther backs off, but then CHOPS! Cody falls and the fans are torn! Gunther storms up to CHOP Cody back down!

Gunther whips Cody to ropes, Cody slides under, and Cody kicks low to UPPERCUT! Cody then springboards, into a CHOP! Cody flounders away while the fans fire up again! Gunther whips Cody to ropes again, KNEES him low, then whips for another KNEE! Gunther turns Cody, then CHOPS him down! Cover, ONE!! The fans cheer as Cody toughs it out, then they duel again. Gunther stalks Cody to a corner, CLUBS him on the back, then stalks him along the ropes. Gunther whips corner to corner hard, and Cody grits his teeth as he slumps down. Gunther whips Cody again, but Cody goes up, over, but Gunther avoids the snap powerslam!

Gunther has the SLEEPER, Cody arm-drags free, but Gunther BOOTS him down! The fans rally and sing again while Gunther stomps Cody grabs ropes to deny the whip, then he fires forearms! But Gunther RUNS Cody over! The fans cheer while Cody shakes out that arm. Gunther drags Cody up, waistlocks, then back suplexes, but Cody lands out! Cody ROCKS Gunther, ROCKS him again, then runs to ROCK Gunther again! Gunther staggers, runs up, but Cody goes up and over, to SNAP POWERSLAM! The fans cheer as Cody then JABS, JABS, JABS! Flip, flop, fly, BIONIC ELBOW! Cody then kicks and reels Gunther in, PEDIGREE! Cover, TWO!

The fans are fired up as Gunther survives, and as Cody goes to the apron. The fans rally up more as Cody climbs. Cody leaps, Gunther gets under, and he SHOTGUNS Cody! Then Gunther lifts Cody up, GENERAL BOMB! Cover, TWO! Cody survives and the fans fire up again! Gunther goes up a corner now, and he GUNTHER SPLASHES but onto knees! Cody springboards to DISASTER KICK! Direct hit, and then Cody dragon sleepers, for the CROSS RHODES! Cover, TWO?!? Gunther survives and Cody is a bit surprised, but the fans are loving this! Cody waits on Gunther, then he goes up the corner! SUPER CODY- SLEEPER!!

The fans fire up as Gunther has Cody, but Cody rolls back to a cover, TWO! Gunther has the SLEEPER again! Cody flails, reaches out, but Gunther squeezes tight! Gunther drags Cody back down into the body scissors! Cody reaches out, but Gunther turns him over to put his full weight on the hold! Cody claws at the mat, pushes up, and shifts around. Cody fights, the fans rally, and Cody manages to lift Gunther as a backpack! Cody then hits a BACKPACK SENTON! Gunther lets go, but then rises up to SLEEPER again! Then HAMMER ‘N’ ANVIL ELBOWS before the SLEEPER returns! Cody is turning red!

The ref checks on Cody as the fans rally up harder, and Cody reaches out! Gunther keeps that arm back, then turns Cody away from the ropes! The fans rally for Cody as hard as they can and Cody shifts through the body scissors to ROPEBREAK! Gunther lets go in frustration, and the fans duel as Gunther thinks on his next move. Gunther looms over Cody, stalks him to ropes, and kicks Cody around. Gunther talks trash, the fans rally even harder, and Gunther pie faces Cody. Gunther CLUBS Cody on the back, then follows him to a corner. Cody fires haymakers in return! The fans cheer, but then Gunther CHOPS! Cody CHOPS! Gunther CHOPS! CHOP CHOP CHOP!

The fans fire up as the CHOPS are fast ‘n’ furious, but then Gunther LARIATS! Cody stays up to LARIAT back! And LARIAT again! Gunther is still up, so Cody runs, but into a LARIAT! Gunther runs again, but Cody doges! Springboard, CODY- SLEEPER! But Cody slips through to SLEEPER! Gunther powers up and out, but CODY CUTTER!! Cody keeps moving, and he runs up to LARIAT!! Cody roars, the fans fire up, and Cody grabs Gunther for another dragon sleeper! CROSS RHODES!! Cover, CODY WINS!!

Gunther seems confused! Did he have a ropebreak or didn’t he? Replay shows he had his foot under the rope, but Cody moved it before the ref could see! But too little, too late, and Cody perhaps survives Gunther rather than defeats him. Will Der Ring General make sure General Manager, Nick Aldis, hears about this?

As if a WrestleMania rematch wasn’t big enough, this one might be even more personal than the first time around! Mami thinks #ThatB1tch is getting too high on herself, but will her brutality weather The Storm? Or will Jade make sure she comes out on top this time?

The introductions are made, the belt is raised, and we see who is truly the alpha female of WWE!

The bell rings and the fans are already fired up for “MAMI! MAMI! MAMI!” “Let’s Go, Rhea!” Jade and Rhea stare down as the fans get even more fired up. The two circle, feel things out, and tie up. They’re in a deadlock at center, then break. The fans cheer Rhea on as they go again, and Jade powers Rhea back. Rhea turns things around to put Jade on the ropes, but Jade turns it back around. They end up in a corner, then Rhea arm-drags, but Jade holds onto the collar ‘n’ elbow. Jade then KNEES low, and she SLAPS Rhea! The fans boo, Rhea snarls, and Rhea kicks low to then KNEE SMASH! But Jade dodges a lariat to scoop and SLAM!

Jade eggs Rhea on while the fans boo, and Jade does push-ups to show off. Rhea SLAPS back! Rhea eggs Jade on, and the two run again! Rhea TOSSES Jade out, then WRECKS Jade with a dropkick! The fans fire up, Rhea CANNONBALLS, but Jade brushes it off! Jade ROCKS Rhea, CLUBS her, then fireman’s carries to THROW Rhea onto the apron! The fans taunt Jade but she pops Rhea up for a KNEE! The Man obviously thinks of herself as the greatest female wrestler of all time, and claims she’s not the only one who says it, that everybody is saying it, and that Sports Illustrated and The Bleacher Report say it. She also claims that the Soul Surfer is not ready to swim in the deep end, but Becky also had to get herself disqualified just so she wouldn’t lose outright to Sol at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Will Becky actually back up her words with actions? Or is she about to get her title snatched along with her soul?

The bell rings and the fans fire up as the two stare down. The fans sing for “Roman, Roman Reigns~!” but Fatu is not bothered. Fatu and Roman circle, the fans continue to sing, shifting to “OLE~, OLE OLE OLE~! FATU~, FATU~!” Roman and Fatu continue to circle as the energy builds, and they tie up. They go around, break, and Fatu fires up. The two circle again, test the ropes, and the fans sing again. The two finally tie up and Roman headlocks. Fatu fires body shots, headlocks, but Roman powers up and out. Fatu RUNS Roman over, the fans are torn, but Fatu runs the ropes. Roman drops down, hurdles, and he LARIATS Fatu down!

The fans fire up while Fatu goes to a corner. Roman fires hands on Fatu, bumps him off buckles, and he keeps the fans fired up. Roman bumps Fatu off more buckles, then off more buckle! The fans rally up again as Roman winds it up, and he bumps Fatu off the fourth corner! Fatu sputters after making a full lap like that, but Roman whips him to ropes. Fatu ducks ‘n’ dodges to BODY CHECK Roman! Fatu then winds up, and TONGAN DEATH- NO, Roman breaks free fast, and for good reason, But Fatu DIVES onto Roman on the outside! Direct hit into barriers! The fans rally, Fatu SMACKS Roman off the barriers, then he runs Roman to THROW him over barriers!

The fans cheer as now things move out into the crowd, and Fatu HEADBUTTS Roman! Roman staggers, Fatu grabs water to hydrate and cool off. Roman fires haymakers on Fatu first! They go to the green ‘n’ white steps, and Roman rains down fists! The fans rally for “O T C! O T C!” as he climbs up and rains down shots! The fans count all the way to TEN, or DIECI in Italian! The fans cheer Roman on as he brings Fatu around and whips, but Fatu reverses! Roman is sent into the handrail! The fans are torn but Fatu brings Roman around to HEADBUTT! And HEADBUTT! They move along the back and Fatu SMACKS Roman off an open chair!

Fatu brings Roman around to the back end of the seating section for another HEADBUTT! They go to the concessions stand! Roman ROCKS Fatu, then CLOBBERS him with the ice bucket! The fans cheer as Roman tosses free snacks to fans. Roman then brings Fatu to the red ‘n’ white steps, but Fatu POSTS Roman first! They go along the way, Fatu kicks low, and Fatu brings things back to ringside. Fatu DUMPS Roman over barriers, then he intimidates the timekeeper into moving. Fatu CHOKES Roman, he tells the ref to shut up, and the fans want tables! Fatu drags Roman up and he HEADBUTTS Roman down!

Fatu snarls as he goes looking under the ring, and the fans cheer already! Fatu looks underneath, can’t find what he wants, but Roman CLOBBERS Fatu! Roman POSTS Fatu, then he goes looking underneath the ring. Roman nods as  he brings out a TABLE! The fans cheer, but then Fatu CLOBBERS Roman! Fatu sees the table, and he stands it up against the apron. But Roman BOOTS Fatu! The fans sing for Roman as he takes the table and puts it in the ring. Roman makes sure it is in a corner, but Fatu UPPERCUTS! Fatu SMACKS Roman off the steel steps, then whips him into the other steel steps! The steps fall apart and Roman clutches an arm!

The fans rally but Fatu takes the top part of the steps and puts those in the ring. Fatu goes back to Roman, puts him in the ring, and the fans fire up, “YADADA MEAN!?” Fatu says he tried to tell Roman… But Roman UPPERCUTS Fatu off the apron! Roman then sees the steps, picks those up, and he takes aim! STAIR DOWN!! Fatu falls in a heap after being hit in the face with the steps! The fans rally as Roman goes out the side. Roman builds speed and he DRIVE-BY DROPKICKS Fatu into the POST! The fans fire up while Fatu falls, and Roman says this is what he told Fatu! The whole world loves Roman, and so will Fatu!

The fans rally and sing for Roman again, and Roman puts Fatu back in the ring. Fatu stumbles, Roman LARIATS! Roman whips, Fatu reverses, but Roman LEAPING LARIATS! The fans fire up with Roman while Fatu goes to the corner. Roman fires LARIAT after LARIAT in the corner, and goes to DIECI! The fans cheer again, and Roman gets moving, and he BOOTS Fatu down! Roman raises his finger to the sky, the fans join in, and now Roman locks ‘n’ loads. SUPERMAN- NO, Fatu dodges, and he fires haymakers! Roman wobbles, Fatu ROCKS him and whips him, but Roman KICKS Fatu! Fatu just fires up to LARIAT! And SENTON!

“YADADA MEAN?!” The fans fire up as Fatu LARIATS in a corner, then climbs up. Fatu rains down HEADBUTTS, all the way to DIECI! Fatu keeps moving, and he HIP ATTACKS Roman! Fatu geeks out, the fans fire up, and Fatu is back on Roman! Fatu whips Roman to POP-UP- SUPERMAN PUNCH!! Cover, TWO! Fatu survives and the fans rally again! Both men are down but Roman sits right up. Roman goes to the corner, the fans fire up with him, and “OOOAH~!” But Fatu SUPERKICKS first! Roman staggers, rebounds, into the TONGAN DEATH GRIP!! The fans are torn as Fatu chokes the life from Roman!

Roman drops to a knee, he reaches out, and he finds a second wind! Roman fires hands on Fatu, but Fatu SHOVES Roman up and out! Roman staggers, Fatu DIVES into a SUPERMAN PUNCH! The fans fire up again as Fatu dangles on the apron! Fatu then slumps down to the floor, “This is Awesome!” Roman still has to catch his breath, but Fatu crawls under the apron skirt. Is Fatu looking for something? He doesn’t seem to bring anything out from underneath. Roman watches Fatu flounder, and Roman looks under the ring. Kendo sticks? Nah, not good enough. Chairs? Nah, still not good enough. A toolbox?! Yes, that’ll work.

Roman brings his toolbox over, and he traps Fatu’s hand! Roman SMASHES the hand with the toolbox!! Roman says Fatu can’t do ish without that hand, huh!? The fans go nuts as Roman then dumps out the contents of the toolbox. The fans chant “MAMMA MIA!” Roman sees Fatu grabbing at the steel steps, and he SMASHES the hand again!! Fatu scrambles away into the ring, Roman covers, TWO! Roman rains down fists, stomps the hand, and the fans tell Roman he’s crazy. Roman grabs the table and finally stands it up in the corner. The fans cheer  as Roman goes back to Fatu. Roman SLAMS the bad hand off the mat, then stomps Fatu down.

The fans cheer as Roman goes to the corner, and he powers up for another “OOOAH~!” But Fatu CLOBBERS Roman first!! Fatu roars and HIP ATTACKS! Fatu shakes out the bad hand but the fans fire up as he lines up another shot. Wait, Fatu goes outside as Roman slumps out of the ring. Fatu grins, “This is Awesome!” as Fatu runs in around the way! But Roman SUPERMAN PUNCHES first! Both men flounder on the floor, but Roman goes to the steel steps. The fans rally up for “O T C! O T C!” Roman nods and he runs in at Fatu, SPEAR through the barriers!! The whole corner section pops free and wipes out security with it!! The fans are going nuts seeing that destruction!

Roman gets Fatu up and in the ring, then reloads! “OOOAH~!” SPEAR!!! Cover, TWO!??! Fatu survives and shocks everyone! Both men are down but the fans rally back up again. Roman tells Fatu, “You think I need help to beat you? You don’t see the Usos out here.” Roman says he beats everyone’s asses, he doesn’t need help, he does this for everyone else’s sake! Roman then RIPS a buckle pad away, just like Backlash! Wait, that’s not all, Roman RIPS another one from the other corner! And from the third corner, too! Roman says he doesn’t need anyone’s help! The fans duel as Roman talks more trash, but the TONGAN DEATH GRIP!

But wait, the bad hand can’t hold on! Roman grins, and he SUPERMAN PUNCHES! But Fatu just fires up again! SUPERMAN PUNCH, but Fatu still keeps gout! Roman RAMS Fatu into bare buckle, then bare buckle, then Roman runs, SPEAR FROM FATU?!? Cover, TWO!?!? Roman survives the sudden turnaround but the fans rally up as Fatu rises. Fatu goes up, up, and MIGHTY MOONSAULT FLOPS as Roman dodges! Roman then aims again, “OOOAH~!” But Fatu pops Roman up! SAMOAN DROP!! Then the MIGHTY MOONSAULT!! Cover, TWO!!! With the low blow kickout, too! Roman used that trick in the past, to think he’d resort to it again tonight!

“This is Awesome!” as both men are still down. Fatu crawls his way back over as the fans sing. Roman and Fatu sit up, and Fatu throws a haymaker! Roman fires back! Fatu fires another haymaker, but Roman fires back! The shots go back and forth, even as the two stand. TONGAN DEATH GRIP!! Fatu fights through the pain to keep it on, but Roman CLUBS free, and BARE BUCKLE SHOT! Roman DRIBBLES Fatu off the buckle, all the way to DIECI! Fatu staggers around, Roman runs up, SPEAR through the table!!! But Roman can’t make the cover!! The fans rally, and Fatu is getting up already?!? HOW?!?

Roman can’t believe it either, but he just builds speed! SPEAR!!! Cover, ROMAN WINS!

Winner: Roman Reigns, by pinfall (still WWE World Heavyweight Champion)

It took more ferocity and anger than Roman’s had to use in a long time, but he managed to bring it all back so he could keep it all under control. Roman is still World Heavyweight Champion, Roman is still Tribal Chief, and now Jacob Fatu will have no choice but to ACKNOWLEDGE HIM! The Usos appear so they can present the ula fala to Roman. They dap it up, then they stare at Fatu. Roman tells Fatu he’s with them now, but wait! MFT is in the crowd! Roman chuckles and says that’ll be next time. The OG Bloodline heads out, the Samoan Werewolf now in tow. Fatu gives a look at MFT, is he thinking they were right all along? Or will he see things Roman’s way soon enough?

My Thoughts:

A great Clash In Italy, but it could’ve been better. There was a more technical, filming aspect to Cody VS Gunther that could’ve been better with that “controversial finish” of the phantom ropebreak. If we’d cut to a camera that was on that side in the moment, it would’ve better delivered the point they were going for. Still a great match, and that finish does keep Gunther somewhat protected, but I would think Cody moves on to Sami Zayn given everything from SmackDown last Friday. Great match from Rhea VS Jade, and naturally The Baddies showed up to be countered by Charlotte. But as I was also saying on Friday, Rhea winning works out for the best, she can have fresh feuds while Charlotte and Jade feud on the side.

Oba VS Femi was awesome, especially as a way to start the ESPN Unlimited portion of the show. Holy crap did they do some great stuff to escalate from their Mania match. They really got me thinking Oba was gonna go 2-0, but then I remembered they still gotta do SummerSlam in Minnesota, so Lesnar pulled it off after all. That third match will be bonkers, and they might even write in that the stipulation is Lesnar’s true retirement. Great match from Sol VS Becky, especially with the story involvement of Jessica Karr. But given how SNME went and how that set this match up, it was pretty clear Sol was going to win, and this is a great moment for Sol.

Tribal Combat was really good, but could’ve been better if it just had better pacing, and maybe a bit of blood. Honestly, it should’ve just been a wild brawl at the bell, then weapons and all the stuff we did get. Personally, Fatu should’ve won to shock everyone, because we really are just rehashing when Roman made Jey submit to his rule. And throwing in MFT at the end there, are they moving over to Raw and abandoning the story with Royce Keys? Either way, a very confusing choice on top of a disappointing choice, not really what should’ve ended a very fun night.
