Newman puts IWGP title opportunity on the line in tag match at Ignition to Dominion
IWGP Heavyweight Champion Callum Newman has challenged Yota Tsuji and Shingo Takagi to a high-stakes tag match at Ignition to Dominion on May 6, teaming with Jake Lee against the Unbound Co. duo. Stipulations are clear: if the Unbound Co. score a pinfall over Newman, the pinner earns a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Title in Dominion’s main event on June 14; if Newman and Lee win, neither Tsuji nor Takagi can challenge Newman for the title again. NJPW has yet to post an official card, and the show streams live on New Japan World at 4 a.m. ET.
Newman retained the belt at Wrestling Dontaku night two via a low blow against Takagi, his first defense since winning the title from Tsuji at Sakura Genesis 2026, and tensions continued to simmer with former mentor Will Ospreay after he questioned Newman’s tactics. United Empire picked up gold at Dontaku as well, with Ospreay, Great-O-Khan and HENARE capturing the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championships.
