WWE Cites Creative Limits as Cause for Aleister Black, Zelina Vega and Wyatt Sicks Releases

WWE’s recent post-WrestleMania roster cuts — which included Aleister Black, Zelina Vega and the group known as the Wyatt Sicks (Uncle Howdy, Joe Gacy, Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis and Erick Rowan) — were driven by a creative assessment that the Wyatt tribute had run its course and was limiting long-term use. According to Dave Meltzer, the company felt it had “got all they were going to get” from the faction and simply did not have compelling directions for Black or Vega despite Black being a major recruitment from AEW.

Reports refute claims the releases were due to TKO’s aversion to darker characters, with Meltzer noting that such explanations were “bullshit” and the decisions didn’t reach that level. Meltzer also added that AEW had previously reached out to Vega after her 2020 release but that overtures were effectively ignored before she re-signed with WWE.
