WWE Nearly Pitched an nWo 2020 Reboot Featuring Sheamus, Cesaro, Nakamura and Lars Sullivan
Former WWE writer Chris Dunn revealed on the Public Enemies Podcast that WWE flirted with an nWo reboot during the pandemic era, pitching a faction of Sheamus, Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura and Lars Sullivan. The concept reportedly progressed far enough that a legendary nWo member was slated to fly to Orlando to introduce the group, but that legend failed a COVID test and the idea stalled before a formal debut.
Kevin Nash later tweeted he and fellow original members Scott Hall and Sean “X-Pac” Waltman never heard about the plan, and Dunn placed the pitch in the messy ThunderDome/Performance Center period when WWE experimented with angles like Retribution and Raw Underground. Sullivan left WWE not long after, Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli) signed with AEW in 2022, Sheamus and Nakamura remained with WWE, and the classic nWo (Hogan, Nash, Hall, Waltman) were inducted into the 2020 WWE Hall of Fame.
