Swerve Strickland Explains Storyline Reason for AEW Absence
Swerve Strickland posted a video to social media Wednesday explaining the storyline reason for his absence from AEW television. Strickland — who has not wrestled on AEW since his March 25 Dynamite loss to Kenny Omega, a match that stripped him of his No. 1 contendership — said AEW management is keeping him off Dynamite because they’re “afraid” of what he’ll do to Bandido and other talent, adding that recent promos have been shot off-site as a result.
In the clip he thanked Tony Khan for sending him to the NFL Draft and other ambassador duties but insisted those assignments are keeping him from “doing my job” in the ring and chasing championship gold. Outside the storyline, Fightful reported last month he was filming promotional material for Warner Bros. Discovery, and Strickland previously missed extended time after knee surgery; he says AEW has effectively “banned” him from Dynamite until further notice.
