AEW Reportedly Discussing Matt Sydal Return After Two-Year Absence
AEW is reportedly exploring bringing Matt Sydal back into in-ring competition following a roughly two-year absence, with internal discussions confirmed by PWInsider’s Mike Johnson. The promotion appears to be monitoring Sydal’s medical progress and availability as it considers reintegrating the high-flying veteran.
Sydal underwent right-foot surgery in 2024 to correct a long-term injury from a motorcycle accident 12 years earlier, a procedure that involved breaking and re-fusing several bones and inserting hardware. The former All Out 2020 surprise entrant last worked AEW on the May 22, 2024 edition of Dynamite against Konosuke Takeshita and also returned to the independent scene — facing Último Dragón in France on July 19 — signaling potential readiness if AEW moves forward with plans.
