Go Home, Go Away…I don’t think TNA understands how to utilize Go Home shows.

Published

on

Slammiversary is this Sunday, so we’ve got a Go Home show. And thankfully I’m already home, because the product lately has made me want to just get up and walk away to somewhere. Since we still aren’t out of the quagmire that was Tommy Dreamer creative, Slammiversary should end up being a pivot point.

Go Homes tend to be hit or miss with TNA, so let’s see what last bastion of Dreamer work has left us.

Ratings:

  • ASH by Elegance M by Elegance w/Elegance Brand vs Mara Sade: No Contest -(-*) Negative 1 snowflake
  • AJ Francis vs Manny Lemons: AJ wins via Down Payment – SQUASH
  • Xia Brookside vs Harley Hudson: Xia wins via Darkside DDT – ** 3/4
  • Cedric Alexander, Frankie Kazarian & Mr. Elegance vs KC Navarro, Leon Slater & Fabian Aichner: Kaz wins via Jacknife Cradle – ***

We open up with a Broken Hardyz talking segment. I’ll admit the crowd seems pretty alive for the Hardys. There’s a poetic irony to the Broken Ones kicking things off, because with how the shows and news have gone lately, we’ll get to see if TNA will “fade away and classify themselves as obsolete”. Eventually The Righteous come out and then The System. Nothing is special, it’s all very color by numbers pre-PPV promo stuff. At least the crowd is responding well, but the segment is useless.

It breaks down into a brawl, Jeff of course gets a ladder while everyone else fights, Spot Monkeys gonna spot…but The System notices Jeff climbing and they bail, Vincent and Dutch also start to back away, so Jeff is just left on a ladder while their music cues.

ASH by Elegance M by Elegance w/Elegance Brand vs Mara Sade

Indi Hartwell is on commentary. ASH has a mental breakdown in the middle of the ring because the crowd is calling her a mark. She tells Maggie to take her place and she just leaves.

What in the actual…but now Elayna Black’s music hits as Mara slugs it out with Maggie…this is moronic. Holy garbage in a duffel bag. But Maggie tries to actually have a match, Mara is rocking her, M powders, they do the Around the World, M tries to put Heather in her way but Mara just jumps off the steps and hits M with a Dropkick. Heather distracts Mara on the top rope, allowing M a cut off and then a Tower of London, into ground and pound knees, and a headlock. M does Mara’s body roll…and it’s nice. Not as nice as Mara, but no complaints.

Mara kicks out of a pinfall, Heather gets on the apron, Indi grabs Heather, Elayna levels Indi, Mara hits a Superkick, Tornado DDT and goes for her Moonsault, but Elayna just attacks Mara and this travesty ends in a no contest. Dreamer’s creative is equivalent to someone having a stroke during a nightmare.

Christ on a motorbike, now Rosemary and Allie come out to take out the Elegantos. Oy vey, calling this garbage is an insult to garbage.

AJ Francis vs Manny Lemons

Dude, if life gives you these lemons…just jump off a bridge. They find the worst looking jobbers.

AJ is ignoring the jobber, so the jobber tries to attack, AJ no sells it, rocks him, then chucks him and is in no rush. Tennessee Whiskey, and AJ continues to take 8 business days just to gloat while dog walking a jobber. Then he literally does the Rope Walk, just…ugh…end this already. I’d rather have explosive diarrhea than sit through more of this.

TFL, into Down Payment and squashed lemons.

It’s been 45 minutes and we got an opening talk segment that did nothing, two worthless matches and Elijah has a tron promo afterwards. And I don’t care…I don’t know if I could care less, I’d like to know if I could…maybe I could pioneer actually caring less. Hmm..

Xia Brookside vs Harley Hudson

Harley comes in and does her Scott Steiner pushups during her entrance and Xia attacks her, then does her own pushups. The bell rings, Xia tries to continue but Harley slips out and puts together a few moves until Xia puts the brakes on a Backslide, standing switch, but Harley hits a Northern Lights Suplex and wrestles down Xia as she adds a little ass shake to her pushups. Xia gets insulted and manages a few opportunistic kicks and slaps. Xia shoves her in the corner, stomps a mudhole and a Double Slap gives Xia time to mock the crowd.

Xia continues to work over Harley in the corner with Shoulder Blocks, Drop Toe Hold into Angel’s Wings, and then a Bow and Arrow submission. Harley tries to power out, but Xia keeps her down. Xia just drives the heel of her boots into Harley’s shoulder blades, before slapping her abs and taunting her. Harley manages to put the brakes on an Irish Whip, they exchange a few strikes, Harley bounces off the ropes, Lariat, a few more kicks, Hip Attack on a grounded Xia, Sack of Shit from Harley for a two count. Harley goes for a Reverse Piledriver, Xia blocks, Harley hits a Discus Punch, looks for a Diving Leg Drop but Xia moves. Kicks her in the head, Darkside DDT.

Xia attacks Harley afterwards, Xia’s music hits and she…walks out for the save? Okay, I love Lei Ying Lee, but stomping down of a “save” doesn’t show any urgency. It’s not as egregious as Jeff dancing while Matt is getting his ass beat, but it’s in that same vein.

Now we get Moose & Dango walking out to be eventually met in the ring by Eddie and Lish. The match is that moronic No Surrender match from a few years ago. This match is dumb, the only way to win a “No Surrender” match…is for your corner person to surrender for you by throwing in the towel. The match will probably be pretty good, but Gods above, below and every other direction…this match makes King of the Mountain and Reverse Battle Royal look like genius. Lish telling Moose to “Spear her”, yea I can see that get meme’d at some point for the obvious reasons.

Cedric Alexander, Frankie Kazarian & Mr. Elegance vs KC Navarro, Leon Slater & Fabian Aichner

Kaz and Leon start because Cedric refuses to start, so Leon attacks Cedric on the apron with the Yakuza Kick and then lights up Kaz, tags in Fabian, but Kaz pokes the eyes and tags out to Elegance loser. Fabian is confused by his existence, much like the rest of us, he no sells a slap from Elegance, Knife Edge Chops, Lariat, Arm Wringer and tags in KC. KC hits the ELbow into the Arm, a quick combo into a Snapmare and a Crossbody for a nearfall.

KC goes to follow up and Elegance hits a Jawbreaker, and tags in Cedric. Cedric starts working over KC while jawing at Leon. KC does some redirect rope runs, into a Backflip Leap Frog to hit Cedric with a Dropkick. Kaz comes in, but KC trips him up, hits the 305, Kaz wants the Slingshot Cutter but KC turns it into a Japanese Arm Drag. Leon and Fabian get involved, send people out and then the babyfaces hit Triplicate Dives and pose as we go to commercial.

Back on and guess what, the heels are in control as Kaz sends Leon back first into the apron, Elegance is doing his moron move on the corner and Cedric is barking at Leon while slapping the taste out of his mouth. But after the double strike connect Cedric and Leon hit the simultaneous tags to Aichner and Kaz, Kaz tries a Blockbuster or something and apparently Aichner counters it into a Brainbuster, just a lot of fast paced signature spam style action.

Just Slingshots, Supkicks, trying to set up, but KC hits a Code Red as the call to Amazing Red for Slammiversary, more action as Elegance does his Lightning Spiral move just to eat the Swanton 450 from Leon, but Kaz takes advantage and hits the Jacknife Cradle after all the chaos, Kaz and the heels win.

Nemeth comes out to give a “medical update” since he put Santana in the “hospital”. Nic says they should just crown him now since, so he calls out Carlos since he “loves being on TV”…but when the camera pans up, Ryan Nemeth is getting his ass kicks and as we see, it’s a bloodied Santana, using Ryan to send a message.

Overall Score: 3.5/10

I am not drunk enough to watch this imbecilic trash. The first 45 minutes of the show were completely useless. Harley and Xia was a little fun, but Harley is just a jobber on the roster at this point, especially since you’re not gonna have Xia lose before a title match. So there was literally one match on this show that wasn’t a waste of time filler match. TNA needs to stop just throwing out fluff matches before PLEs. Suspension of disbelief matter in pro wrestling, and when everything on the show is color by numbers or a job match, except the main event, that’s a very long two hours.

The whole Nic “medical update” was obvious that Santana was gonna come out. It was a little cool with beating Ryan half to death on the way down, but not unexpected. It really didn’t do anything, much like this entire episode did nothing to sell Slammiversary to anyone who wasn’t already gonna watch it. Let’s hope whoever does creative moving forward understand how to build to a boil on the Go Home, instead of phoning it in and considering the work already done in the previous weeks.

TNA has a tendency to put on some really bad television before a really good PLE. So, this last month or so may have been historically bad television, so we can expect a show of the year at Slammiversary! Right? Right? Don’t say sike…
