Athena to defend ROH Women’s World Title against Syuri at Global Wars: Cincinnati
ROH announced that ROH Women’s World Champion Athena will put her record-long title reign on the line against Stardom star Syuri in the build to AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. The match, which marks Syuri’s ROH debut, will air as part of the ROH vs. CMLL vs. Stardom Global Wars special on HonorClub on June 18 and is being filmed during AEW’s two-night Summer Blockbuster run in Cincinnati (this Wednesday or next Thursday).
The bout is a rematch of February’s NJPW The New Beginning USA encounter and follows the two sharing the ring in last year’s All In: Texas women’s Casino gauntlet. Athena will be aiming to extend her near-1,300‑day title run while also likely competing in the semifinals of the AEW Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament during the Cincinnati dates; Forbidden Door is set for June 28 in San Jose.
