Bobby Cruise Recalls Chaotic First ROH TV Taping Under Sinclair

Ring of Honor ring announcer Bobby Cruise told Tony Schiavone on the What Happened When podcast that the first ROH TV taping after Sinclair Broadcasting’s May 2011 purchase was “one of those painful things” he’d gone through. Cruise said the Chicago Ridge show suffered long 15–20 minute delays between matches because the production truck crew was unfamiliar with the show, prompting ROH to start taping in Sinclair’s Baltimore home base to avoid further issues.

The inaugural Sinclair episode aired September 24, 2011, and featured dark matches where Grizzly Redwood defeated Tony Kozina and Mike Sydal defeated Mr. Ernesto Osiris (with Prince Nana & RD Evans). On the televised portion, Future Shock (Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly) beat The Bravado Brothers, while Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin) retained the ROH World Tag Team Championship over The Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli) with Sara Del Rey and Shane Hagadorn at ringside.
