Chris King: Is Jey Uso a Babyface or a Heel?

Chris King vents his confusions regarding Jey Uso’s alignment as he heads into the King Of The Ring Finals!

‘Main Event’ Jey Uso’s character has got me shaking my head in straight-up confusion. The former world heavyweight champion has made his way into the finals of the King of the Ring tournament andh as announced his intention to go after the Undisputed WWE  Championship. This was after ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns gave him the ammunition to win the whole thing and challenge his former friend, maybe rival, Cody Rhodes. 

On one hand, Jey is involved with the Bloodline family, and on the other, he’s fighting against The Vision. He’s threatening LA Knight for trashing his family and blurring the lines between good guy and villain at almost every turn. On the road to WrestleMania 42, when CM Punk made jabs at their family, Jey was the one who triggered and  unleashed the ruthless Tribal Chief to make him pay for his actions. He even called his cousin by his real name “Joe” to get Punk and Smash ‘em all which goes back to the origin of The Tribal Chief character. 

When Fatu challenged Reigns for the world title,  Jey seemed fine to stay in his lane and be a good little soldier for The Tribal Chief, but once ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ Jacob Fatu lost and was forced to fall in line with the Bloodline, things changed. He’s been seen backstage trying to call the shots for the family and barking orders to Fatu, almost acting like Reigns. 

On this past episode of Monday Night Raw, Jey came out yeeting with the WWE universe in front of Oba Femi, acting like the loveable babyface he’s been for years, but there’s been a new type of aggression he’s been displaying for the past few months. It isn’t just friendly competition anymore for Jey; it feels like he’s unhinged and out of control. Hell, he told Knight to “acknowledge him,” something he’s never said before to his rivals. 

During live events he’s competing against Bron Breaker in street fights, but on regular television he’s fighting Rhodes, the top babyface on Friday Night SmackDown. At some point will the real Jey Uso stand up? Is he a villain who will win the KOTR and win the WWE title at any cost, or is he the popular babyface that the WWE universe loves to yeet with? If his character continues to spiral like this, will The Tribal Chief even be able to keep him on his leash, or will he become power-hungry just like his cousin and fight against his family?
