Chris King: Problem? Iyo Sky Is The Solution.

Chris King looks at the potential for Iyo Sky to run with the WWE Women’s Championship if Rhea Ripley’s injury is too significant.

This Saturday is Night of Champions and the finals of the Queen of the Ring tournament, with Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan and Iyo Sky fighting for their rightful crown and a title shot at SummerSlam. On the flip side of the coin, there have been rumors and speculation that WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley was recently injured, and they are not sure if she will have to vacate the title. Chris King has found a solution to the situation if Ripley is forced to vacate the championship and how the ending of Queen of the Ring could be affected. 

At the 2020 Money in the Bank PLE, which was held for the first and only time in the WWE headquarters due to Covid-19, Asuka won the match and became Ms. Money in the Bank. On the following night on Monday Night Raw, she was shocked to find out that the winner of the MITB that year wouldn’t win the iconic briefcase, but she won the Raw Women’s Championship. Then-champion Becky Lynch was taking time off from the company to become a mother, and WWE needed someone to fill that hole. 

‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ held her own and successfully defended her title against Nia Jax, Zelina Vega, and Sasha Banks before briefly losing the title and regaining it. Asuka was the right superstar at the time to steer the ship, and I think the same could be said for ‘The Genius of the Sky.’ Sky, who was Ripley’s former tag team partner, was off fighting her own battles on Raw after Ripley won the women’s title. While there has been no official confirmation on how significant Ripley’s knee injury is, she’s been missing since before Clash in Italy. 

Ripley seemed to be on a collision with Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne over the women’s championship before her injury, and it couldn’t have happened at a worse time. If she is forced to vacate the title, WWE can easily make a smart decision and have Sky become the new women’s champion on SmackDown. I think The Genius of the Sky could do great things for the brand, and when Ripley is back, they can face each other to prove who the best superstar truly is.
