Chris King: WWE Dropping Hints For Survivor Series 2026???
Chris is sharing some insight into WWE possibly dropping subtle hints about a possible return to the old format for this year’s Survivor Series. Since 2016, the event has been pitting champion versus champion in head-to-head competition for brand supremacy. Who could ever forget the amazing Brock Lesnar vs. AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Bryan, or even Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre at the 2020 Survivor Series PLE?
It seemed like after Covid, WWE wanted to freshen things up with a new format in WarGames. Over the past five years, the formula has seen multiple championship bouts as well as two WarGames five-on-five matches for both the women and men superstars of WWE. At last year’s event, we saw Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and The Usos face off against Brock Lesnar, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, and Drew McIntyre.
This year it seems WWE has already started sending subtle hints that perhaps they will be reverting back to the old brand supremacy format. On Raw after WrestleMania, after newly crowned women’s champion Rhea Ripley assisted her friend Iyo Sky, she had a short encounter backstage with the brand new women’s world champion Liv Morgan.
After yesterday’s Clash in Italy PLE, both world champion Roman Reigns and undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes shared a tense moment backstage, with Rhodes congratulating Reigns on his success.
I was confused for a moment why WWE would be dropping breadcrumbs since Survivor Series is still months away. While everyone is expecting another WarGames rinse and repeat, maybe WWE has decided to go back into their storied playbook.
I love the idea of a potential brand supremacy Survivor Series PLE with the possibility of Penta versus Trick Williams, The Vision versus Damien Priest and R-Truth, and Reigns vs. Rhodes III. I may be reading into things, but ever since Triple H has taken over as head of creative, he leaves things in the background to keep you guessing about what’s coming next. Perhaps these interactions are just that to attract buzz, or perhaps WWE is heading back to the Survivor Series format of old.
