CM Punk Credited with Coining “LayCool,” Layla Reveals
Former WWE star Layla El says CM Punk unexpectedly coined the name for the LayCool partnership between her and Michelle McCool. On Insight with Chris Van Vliet she explained WWE officials were pressuring the duo for a team name when Punk, passing by, casually suggested “LayCool,” a suggestion that stuck and became the team’s identity.
Layla also revealed the pairing was somewhat accidental — Alicia Fox was originally involved and Layla was used as a temporary fill-in — but strong chemistry with McCool and trust from the veteran helped the duo evolve into the memorable “mean girl” team envisioned by management.
