Department of Justice Clears Paramount-WBD Merger; $110 Billion Deal Still Faces Potential Challenges
The Department of Justice has approved Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, clearing a significant federal hurdle for the roughly $110 billion transaction that remains on track to close in September. While the DOJ sign-off reduces immediate federal antitrust risk, the decision does not eliminate regulatory complexity surrounding the merger.
The deal could still face legal challenges from state attorneys general who have expressed antitrust concerns, and any lawsuits may delay or alter the transaction’s terms. Industry observers will be watching for further litigation or conditions that could impact the merger’s timeline and the media market at large.
