Dustin Rhodes Nears AEW Return, Teases Retirement Match Plans

Dustin Rhodes says he’s close to being cleared to return to the ring after double knee surgery that has kept him sidelined since his July 2025 Collision match with Kyle Fletcher. Speaking on Tony Schiavone’s What Happened When podcast, the 57-year-old, who has already resumed coaching duties, said he expects medical clearance soon and hopes to wrestle another year-and-a-half to two years before calling it a career.

Rhodes also outlined early ideas for a farewell match, saying he’s discussed plans with Tony Khan and would like a throwback “The Natural” finish without face paint and in a bodysuit, while remaining open to the company’s plans. Now 38 years into his career and under a long-term AEW deal that will extend beyond his in-ring work, Rhodes said he feels blessed and is aiming to reach 40 years in the business.
