WWE Monday Night Raw heads to Paris, with two Intercontinental Championship matches, King & Queen Of The Ring, Oba Femi, and more!

WWE Raw was live from Paris on June 8th, a night kicked off by Oba Femi and closed by Je’Von Evans getting arguably the biggest win of his career. But with only three spots, who stood out?

The Third Star: Sol Ruca

“They say the first title defense is the most difficult” – Corey Graves

Sol Ruca has her first Women’s Intercontinental Championship defense in Paris, and it was a great match against Lyra Valkyria. And hopefully someone in charge watches this one back, because mid-match Sol hits a shotgun dropkick, followed by a running knee that left Lyra reeling in the corner. What does that set-up perfectly? The Sol Snatcher. And a proper set-up is what that move needs.

Lyra is a great opponent for Sol, and the new champion gets her reign off to a fantastic start! The sky is the limit for the former NIL star.

Honorable Mention: Chad Gable

I know many wanted Chad Gable to immediately enter the main event scene, but you gotta let it marinate. He’s best positioned as a surprise Royal Rumble winner or given a Daniel Bryan Danielson rise to through WrestleMania.  They’ve started his redemption storyline arc, and it has a ton of potential.

The Second Star: Penta

When Penta signed with WWE, few were more excited than me. He became a favorite of mine in Lucha Underground,  to the point where I was excited when he won the TNA World Championship, and when he signed with AEW I wanted him to be their first world champion.

Obviously that didn’t happen, but he’s quikly cemented himself as a top WWE Superstar, and he just keeps climbing. His match with Rey Mysterio was the typical greatness that we’ve come to expect from Penta, but it’s more than that. His connection to the crowd, and his assimilation to the WWE production in 18 months proves that he’s truly one of the best competitors in the world.

Honorable Mention: LA Knight

“Jacob Jimmy Jey John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt…fun fact: his name is my name, too!” – LA Knight

And him interrupting Jey’s “run it back,” which was obviously not what Jey planned to do based on his facial expressions

The First Star for WWE Monday Night Raw: Je’Von Evans

WWE Raw Ja'Von Evans Square

The rise of Je’Von Evans should be studied–a phenomenal talent, and a genuine personality. Much like Penta above, he’s connected with the audience in a deep way. He’s young, he’s over, and now he has the biggest win of his career as he advances in the King Of The Ring Tournament. The only thing that would make it better is if the pinfall were over Seth Rollins, but even without that, this win was one that he won’t soon forget.

And it’s only the beginning.

In hockey, a game’s “Three Stars Of The Night” represent the top three performers of the night. For more clarification, I defer to this Pittsburgh Gazette explanation:

“The tradition dates to the 1936-37 season, when Imperial Oil became the principal sponsor of Hockey Night in Canada radio broadcasts and was seeking a way to promote one of its products, Three Star gasoline. The idea of doing so by selecting the top three performers in a particular game purportedly came from a Canadian advertising agency.

Many clubs do recognize the player with the most three-star selections with an award or trophy, usually in conjunction with a corporate sponsorship, at the end of the season (or sometimes, each month). All six Canadian franchises, for example, have an affiliation with a well-known brewery.

The NHL keeps track of its own Three Stars Of The Night selections, but that is done on a league-wide basis. The league employs a system that awards 30 points to a first star, 20 to a second star and 10 to a third – a running total can be found on the league’s website – but it does not present an award based on them.”

In hockey tradition, the first star represents the best of the three, but all three are considered to be receiving a high honor.
