Jon Heidenreich Embraces Life After WWE: Walmart Job and Health Updates

Former WWE tag team champion Jon Heidenreich says he’s content with life nearly 20 years after his TV run, following a viral photo of him working overnight putting out freight at a Walmart in New Orleans. The image, posted by a renovation-team co-worker who turned out to be from Ohio, sparked positive fan reaction and led to new bookings, signings and an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet — even prompting the co-worker to buy an old Heidenreich action figure for him to sign.

Heidenreich, 56, told Van Vliet he’s investing in a 401(k) and “couldn’t ask for a better life,” despite ongoing health issues: past heart problems, improved blood pressure and weight, a left knee needing replacement, degenerative arthritis and spinal bone spurs. He reflected on his WWE career as a one-time tag champion with Road Warrior Animal and said his 2006 release stemmed from personal issues, including lateness and substance abuse; he’s been clean for about 10 years, worked the indies afterward but doubts he could wrestle a real match today and paused signings during the pandemic.
