Kaitlyn Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles and WWE Exit
Former WWE Women’s Champion Kaitlyn told TMZ’s Inside The Ring she asked for her WWE release in 2014 after folding under the pressure of the business. Citing the adrenaline, emotional roller coaster and the difficulty of maintaining relationships while living the lifestyle, Kaitlyn said she struggled mentally, physically and emotionally between ages 23 and 27 and ultimately felt she couldn’t sustain that environment.
She also admitted leaving without a plan left her wrestling with regret and a loss of confidence, feeling she hadn’t fully leveraged her opportunity on a global stage. Kaitlyn said she set out to build a new identity and business outside the Kaitlyn character and that confronting those issues was necessary to move forward.
