Maria Kanellis Reflects on Progress for Mothers in Women’s Wrestling
Former WWE and AEW talent Maria Kanellis recently spoke to Wrestling Life Online about how the landscape for women in pro wrestling has changed, particularly for those with children. She recalled that early in her career mothers were expected to keep quiet about their kids while enduring grueling travel schedules with no FaceTime or easy ways to stay connected, calling out the strength of women who maintained that balance decades ago.
Now married to Mike Bennett and a mother of three, Kanellis highlighted how modern technology and expanded opportunities have reshaped what’s possible for female wrestlers, allowing greater connection and flexibility. A veteran of WWE, NJPW, ROH, TNA and AEW, she contrasted today’s environment with the isolation she experienced when she started in the early 2000s.
