Matt Sydal Returns to AEW, Aligns with SkyFlight and Christopher Daniels on Collision

Matt Sydal made a surprise return to AEW on Saturday’s Collision, appearing in a backstage segment where he aligned with SkyFlight and Christopher Daniels. Daniels reintroduced Sydal as a close friend and former favorite tag partner, pledging that SkyFlight would back whatever Sydal wants to do in AEW; Sydal called his comeback the toughest recovery of his life and said he’s headed to “bigger heights than ever.”

Sydal’s last AEW match was a May 2024 loss to Konosuke Takeshita before he announced right foot surgery after “12 years of suffering.” The 43-year-old resurfaced on the indie scene—wrestling in France in July 2025 and on Florida indies later that year—but had not appeared in AEW since his September 2020 debut; he has over 100 AEW matches and 17 ROH matches under the Tony Khan era.
