Mick Foley Recalls Chairshot That Brought Sabu to Tears During Hardcore Era
WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW on-screen personality Mick Foley told listeners on the Something To Wrestle With podcast that he once hit Sabu with a chair hard enough to bring tears to his eyes. Foley recounted Sabu overshooting a moonsault, impaling himself on the guardrail, asking “Am I bleeding? Am I bleeding?” and begging for time before returning to the match, calling it one of the craziest displays of toughness he’d ever seen.
Foley didn’t name the exact show, but the incident was likely during their ECW days; the pair are credited with seven official matches across ECW, NWC, AAA and other promotions on Cagematch. The anecdote underscores the brutal physicality that defined their encounters during the hardcore era.
