New details emerge on NJPW sale as TV Asahi and CyberAgent take majority stakes

Bushiroad announced on May 27 that it has transferred its New Japan Pro-Wrestling shares to TV Asahi and CyberAgent, with each company holding a 46.3% stake and NJPW operating as a consolidated subsidiary of TV Asahi while receiving support from CyberAgent. Weekly Gendai reports Bushiroad had been considering a sale since last year and approached longtime broadcast partner TV Asahi about a potential transfer around February 2026; TV Asahi already held 22.7% of NJPW before the deal.

According to the report, TV Asahi invited CyberAgent into the process to bolster digital and streaming capabilities—CyberAgent owns Abema and the CyberFight brands NOAH, DDT and Tokyo Joshi Pro—and sees wrestling as content with overseas growth potential. The sale, valued at approximately ¥3.6 billion (about $22.6 million), saw 3,550,200 shares transferred to TV Asahi and 6,950,200 shares to CyberAgent, with industry voices calling the price “shockingly low,” and the possibility of inter-promotional matches now being discussed.
