Paul Heyman: WWE “Tremendously Wasted” Cesaro’s Main Event Potential
Paul Heyman told Chris Van Vliet on the Insight Podcast that WWE never fully capitalized on Cesaro’s unique strengths and missed the chance to make him a bona fide main event star. Heyman said Cesaro “checked every box” — with peers routinely requesting matches and John Cena reportedly believing he could main event WrestleMania with him — but blamed a lack of an overarching plan (and even himself) for allowing Cesaro to be underused, likening the situation to how Curtis Axel was handled.
Heyman also argued WWE squandered Cesaro’s multilingual ability, which he believes could have unlocked a compelling promo style and set up a blockbuster program with Brock Lesnar had Heyman turned on him and built him up as a threat. Cesaro worked for WWE from 2011–2022 and briefly aligned with Heyman after winning the 2014 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
