Rey Mysterio Nearly Retired Before Dominik Renewed His Passion
Rey Mysterio revealed on The Late Run with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Raheem Taylor-Parkes that he seriously considered retiring about five or six years ago after feeling mentally and physically burnt out from life on the road, even discussing it with his wife Angie. That conversation changed when his son Dominik told him he wanted to pursue wrestling, a move Rey says reignited the passion that keeps him competing today.
A veteran who began training at 14 under Konnan, Rey watched Dominik enter the business in 2018, debut in WWE a few years later and team with his father to win the WWE Tag Team Titles in May 2021; Dominik’s later alignment with The Judgment Day helped launch his singles career. Rey also noted his role in promoting Lucha Libre culture, with Mexican fans and lucha masks showing strong support on the international stage.
