Road Dogg: WWE Initially Brushed Off AEW, But the Upset Came
Former WWE star and producer Road Dogg spoke about how WWE viewed All Elite Wrestling when it launched in 2019, recalling an era when the company largely dismissed AEW as a minor threat. He referenced Triple H’s infamous D-Generation X Hall of Fame remark about buying “that pissant company” to fire Billy Gunn again, noting that early attitudes treated AEW like “this other little money-marks company.”
Road Dogg also acknowledged how the landscape has shifted, with AEW establishing itself as a consistent number two and a legitimate competitive force in professional wrestling. His comments underline the surprise inside WWE as AEW grew beyond early expectations and reshaped the industry’s dynamics.
