The Blade Reflects on AEW Run and Says He’s Ready to Return to the Indies

Following his departure from AEW, Jesse “The Blade” Guilmette looked back on a six-year run that produced several career highlights, citing bouts with The Young Bucks (including a pandemic-era Falls Count Anywhere at Daily’s Place), FTR’s AEW debut opener, and multiple matches working with Sting. He also singled out a Rampage outing with Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli that earned a mid-match standing ovation, and a tables match with The Hardys on Dynamite, calling the experience in AEW “really big” and expressing gratitude for the opportunities.

With his AEW contract now expired, The Blade said he’s excited to return to the independent scene he spent two decades on, enjoying the mix of familiar opponents and new matchups. His tag partner The Butcher also left the promotion at the same time; the duo, who debuted in AEW in 2019 and last teamed on AEW/ROH cards in January 2024, were long-standing fixtures in the tag division.
