Toni Storm exit reshaped AEW’s women’s plans through All In
Toni Storm’s unexpected departure from AEW in March forced a reshuffle of the promotion’s plans for the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament and its road to All In. Dave Meltzer reported the original plan had Storm winning the tournament and challenging AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla at Wembley, a plan that was shifted to Willow Nightingale after Storm left.
Nightingale then suffered a shoulder injury in May, withdrew from the tournament and vacated the TBS title, with Mercedes Mone returning as a fill-in and advancing to face Maya World in the finals. Meltzer said he wasn’t sure what Mone’s original role for All In had been; Thekla vs. Starlight Kid and Mone vs. Maya World are scheduled for this Sunday at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
