Will Ospreay Responds to Debate Over NJPW’s Direction, Cites Missed Opportunities

Will Ospreay pushed back on social media criticism of New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s talent development, arguing the promotion has repeatedly failed to capitalize on breakout performances. Ospreay pointed to Kenny Omega’s post-recovery match with Gabe Kidd as an example of a moment NJPW didn’t leverage, and called out veterans and younger stars alike — from Goto and Callum to Yuya, Oiwa, Shota and Drilla — as either underused or still finding their footing, while insisting a New Japan champion like Tsuji should represent the company with pride.

While admitting the AEW–NJPW relationship isn’t perfect, Ospreay defended the partnership, noting AEW has supplied top-tier stars — including Kenny Omega, Kazuchika Okada, Yuki Takeshita, Andrade and himself — and reiterated his long-standing bond with New Japan. Ospreay, who first joined Chaos in 2016, reminded fans of his NJPW pedigree and title history, saying he owes much of his career to the promotion that helped shape him.
