Yota Tsuji Suggests Boycotting Forbidden Door Over AEW’s Treatment of IWGP Title
Ahead of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji suggested boycotting the event, criticizing how AEW has handled the IWGP title in recent years. Tsuji pointed out instances where the championship was defended in multi-man matches or against competitors who had not clearly earned a title opportunity, raising concerns about the belt’s prestige.
While Tsuji is not currently scheduled for Forbidden Door, his comments highlight growing frustration over cross-promotional booking and the need to protect IWGP gold. The remarks put pressure on both NJPW and AEW to address how the champion and the title are presented in future interpromotional events.
