Yuto-Ice and Aaron Wolf Qualify for G1 Climax 36
Yuto-Ice and Aaron Wolf each won play-in matches at Tuesday’s Road to G1 show to claim spots in NJPW’s G1 Climax 36, with Yuto-Ice defeating Taichi to enter A Block and Wolf topping YOSHI-HASHI to join B Block. Wolf, an Olympic judo gold medalist who debuted at Wrestle Kingdom 20, becomes one of the rare rookies to make the G1 and is already on his second reign as NEVER Openweight Champion, signaling NJPW’s long-term plans for him.
Yuto-Ice earned his berth after dropping the IWGP Tag Team titles to Great-O-Khan & HENARE at Dominion, while his former partner OSKAR will face Yujiro Takahashi on July 6 for another tournament spot; that same card will also feature El Phantasmo vs. Ryohei Oiwa to determine the final entrants. The G1 begins July 11 and runs through August 16, with the winner earning a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship currently held by Yota Tsuji.
