Acrisure Stadium Pittsburgh Stealers New Seats

The NFL News Report covers the Seahawks sale, grass field debate, Matt Miller’s ESPN leave, Mike Macdonald, and Acrisure Stadium upgrades.

Welcome to The Chairshot NFL News Morning Report, bringing you the biggest NFL stories, media notes, transactions, and team updates from the past 24 hours. Today’s report starts with the Seattle Seahawks reaching a record-setting sale agreement, then moves through the next layer of Seahawks ownership details, the league’s grass-versus-turf debate, ESPN’s Matt Miller situation, Mike Macdonald clarifying his Super Bowl comments, and another round of stadium upgrades in Pittsburgh.

Seahawks Reach Agreement To Sell Franchise To Khosla Family

The Seattle Seahawks have officially entered into a formal sale agreement with an ownership group led by the Khosla family, including Vinod Khosla. The Estate of Paul G. Allen announced the agreement Saturday, stating that the Khosla family will become the team’s controlling owner, though terms were not disclosed and the deal remains subject to NFL approval in the months ahead. AP reported the purchase price at $9.612 billion, which would make it the most expensive sale in NFL history if approved.

This is the kind of story that goes beyond one franchise. Seattle is coming off a Super Bowl win, the franchise has been in the Allen family since 1997, and the reported price blows past the $6.05 billion Commanders sale from 2023. The Seahawks also remain tied to Seattle through a Lumen Field lease that runs through 2032 with three 10-year options, which should matter to fans wondering what comes next under new ownership.

Neeru Khosla Expected To Serve As Controlling Owner

One of the most interesting follow-up details is who will actually run the franchise from an ownership standpoint. Pro Football Talk, citing reporting from Mark Maske, noted that Neeru Khosla, Vinod Khosla’s wife, is expected to serve as controlling owner, while their son Neal Khosla is expected to have a significant leadership role in the ownership group. Vinod Khosla’s prior minority interest in the 49ers should also streamline part of the league review, though he will need to divest that stake as part of the Seahawks transaction.

Sean Payton Predicts More NFL Grass Fields

The NFL’s playing-surface debate is not going away. Pro Football Talk noted that Broncos coach Sean Payton recently told Jason La Canfora he expects more grass fields “where it’s possible,” following Raiders owner Mark Davis’ stated commitment to grass for safety reasons. PFT also listed the league’s current split as 16 teams playing on grass and 16 playing on artificial turf, while pointing out that the issue could become a future collective bargaining topic as players continue pushing for safer surfaces.

ESPN To Address Matt Miller Complaints Later

ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller is on leave as he recovers from serious injuries suffered in a car accident, but the network is also expected to revisit online complaints connected to Miller at a later point. Pro Football Talk, citing Awful Announcing, reported that Miller’s leave is tied to his medical condition, while ESPN plans to follow up later on complaints involving fantasy leagues, paid scouting lessons, charitable contributions, and a Missouri Attorney General investigation. For now, Miller’s recovery is the immediate priority, but the media side of this story is clearly not finished.

Mike Macdonald Says Super Bowl Help Did Not Come From Tom Brady

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald created a stir when he told Dan Patrick that Seattle received Super Bowl preparation help from someone with a “conflict of interest,” which led many to speculate about Tom Brady because of his dual role as a Fox analyst and Raiders minority owner. Pro Football Talk reported that radio host Zach Gelb reached out to Macdonald and was told the person was not Brady. That probably will not stop every conspiracy theory, but it at least removes the most obvious name from the conversation unless new information says otherwise.

Acrisure Stadium Set For More Seat Replacements

Pittsburgh is continuing its stadium refresh. Pro Football Talk reported that the Pittsburgh Sports and Exhibition Authority approved funding to replace nearly 18,000 more seats at Acrisure Stadium, following 22,000 seats that had already been replaced. The larger request involved replacing 58,719 of the stadium’s 68,400 seats, many of which were original and deteriorating, with the new seats using a yellow-and-gray blend to reduce the overwhelming empty-stadium glare.

Transactions And Team Notes

  • No major official July signings are listed on NFL.com’s July signing transaction page as of this check.
  • The Seahawks sale agreement remains subject to NFL approval, with owners expected to review and vote on the transaction later this summer.
  • Vinod Khosla will need to divest his 3.1% ownership stake in the San Francisco 49ers as part of the Seahawks purchase process.
  • Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium project continues with nearly 18,000 additional seats approved for replacement.

Training Camp Watch

There are still no NFL games to preview, so the watch list remains focused on franchise business, ownership approval, stadium operations, media developments, and the final stretch before training camps open. The Seahawks sale is the obvious league-wide business story to track, especially with the reported $9.612 billion valuation, while the grass-field conversation is worth watching as teams, coaches, owners, and players continue circling one of the league’s more persistent safety debates.
