Nick Aldis stunned Madison Square Garden by interfering in the Saturday Night’s Main Event main event, while Fatal Influence captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. AEW Collision added several important matches and stipulations to Redemption, AAA began its search for a new Latin American Champion, and Triangle of Madness captured championship gold in STARDOM.

Nick Aldis Costs Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event

CM Punk and Cody Rhodes defeated Gunther and Sami Zayn in a high-stakes main event that preserved Punk and Rhodes’ one-on-one Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam.

Gunther appeared to have the match won until SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis emerged from underneath the ring and pulled the referee to the floor. Aldis then struck Gunther with the Undisputed WWE Championship, allowing Punk to deliver another GTS before Rhodes pinned Gunther.

The attack immediately placed Aldis at the center of Gunther’s story. Aldis has largely remained an authority figure during his WWE tenure, but physically costing Gunther an opportunity to enter the SummerSlam championship match creates a conflict that cannot be settled through fines, suspensions or another executive decision.

Fatal Influence also left Madison Square Garden with championship gold. Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid defeated Paige and Brie Bella for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship after Jacy Jayne interfered and reversed Paige’s apparent winning rollup, placing Reid on top for the deciding fall.

Lyra Valkyria defeated Bayley after suffering a bloody nose during their physical grudge match. Valkyria countered the Bayley-to-Belly into a modified submission that rendered Bayley unable to continue, then attacked her former partner again after the match.

Danhausen received assistance from New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns during his No Disqualification Match against JD McDonagh. Towns emerged from Danhausen’s cloning machine, chokeslammed McDonagh and drove Dominik Mysterio through a table before Danhausen secured the victory.

The show ended with Roman Reigns and Jalen Brunson standing tall after confronting Seth Rollins and Tyrese Haliburton. Brunson was presented with a customized championship before the segment erupted into a fight between the two NBA rivals and their WWE allies.

AEW Collision Adds Major Matches to Redemption

The Young Bucks challenged Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay to a tag team match at Redemption, continuing their attempt to convince Kenny Omega that Ospreay cannot be trusted. Moxley and Ospreay accepted, giving the pay-per-view another major match involving four of AEW’s most established stars.

Tommaso Ciampa defeated Myron Reed before announcing that his match against Chris Jericho at Redemption will be contested under No Holds Barred rules. Ciampa confronted Paul Wight at the commentary desk while delivering his message to Jericho, promising that he is not intimidated by the returning Painmaker persona.

AAA Vacates Latin American Championship

El Hijo del Vikingo has officially vacated the AAA Latin American Championship following the knee injury and subsequent surgery expected to keep him out of action for approximately nine months.

AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio announced that a new champion will be crowned through a four-way match at Triplemanía 34. Four Triple Threat qualifying matches will determine the participants, with El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. becoming the first wrestler to advance by defeating Abismo Negro Jr. and Texano Jr.

The remaining qualifying matches include several WWE crossover participants. Dragon Lee, Cruz Del Toro, Omos and Damian Priest are all scheduled to compete for opportunities to enter the championship match.

La Hiedra and Laredo Kid defeated Faby Apache and Joaquin Wilde to become the next challengers for the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship held by Lola Vice and Mr. Iguana.

Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano will also team against two representatives of Perros del Mal during Verano de Escándalo. Dominik explained that he does not want the faction interfering with his anticipated Triplemanía match against El Grande Americano, temporarily giving the two rivals a common enemy.

Rey Mysterio also rehired Andrea Bazarte, correcting the stipulation that resulted in her departure from AAA. Bazarte accepted a new contract that included a pay increase. Mysterio additionally announced that Octagón Jr. faces a lengthy recovery from a neck injury, but emphasized that his place in AAA will remain available whenever he is medically cleared.

Thekla, Julia Hart and Skye Blue defeated Hina, Ami Sohrei and Lady C to capture the Artist of STARDOM Championship during the opening night of the 5★STAR Grand Prix.

The victory gives Triangle of Madness championship recognition outside AEW while continuing Thekla’s increasingly personal rivalry with her former promotion. The AEW Women’s World Champion previously promised to embarrass STARDOM and defeated Starlight Kid at Forbidden Door before returning to Japan alongside Hart and Blue.

Thekla said afterward that Triangle of Madness intends to take the championships around the world and defend them as representatives of STARDOM. The title win also gives the group additional momentum before Thekla defends the AEW Women’s World Championship against Willow Nightingale at Redemption.

Tony Khan Explains Bryan Danielson’s Absence

Bryan Danielson has been kept off AEW television to rest and recover from the accumulated physical damage of his wrestling career.
