Eric Young Expected to Join WWE as NXT Player/Coach Following Exit from Impact

Eric Young has officially parted ways with Impact Wrestling (formerly TNA) and is reportedly on his way to WWE to take on a new backstage and in-ring role. Impact issued a press release Wednesday announcing Young’s release, and outlets including Fightful have said WWE sources expect his return after Young maintained a positive relationship with Triple H; Bryan Alvarez has reported the company envisions him as a “player/coach” in NXT.

Young, 46, first broke through in TNA as a member of Team Canada in 2004, signed with WWE in 2016, and was released in the COVID-era roster cuts of April 2020. He returned to Impact, briefly re-signed with WWE in late 2022 without appearing on-screen, then returned to Impact in 2023 and remained there until this recent exit in 2026; he is a multi-time Impact/TNA World Champion and former X-Division Champion among other title reigns.
