Myles Borne Defends Non-Indie Path, Cites Amateur Wrestling as ‘Paying More Dues’
Myles Borne addressed criticism about not coming up through the independent wrestling scene during an appearance on Complex Graps The Podcast, saying his amateur wrestling background eased the transition to WWE NXT. He acknowledged fans and peers who argue he “didn’t pay his dues,” but pushed back that the PC environment is supportive and that outside chatter won’t define his in-ring work.
Borne detailed the grind of amateur wrestling — cutting weight, training in “dark sauna rooms” and competing while depleted — and argued that those hardships amount to paying significant dues that translate well to pro wrestling. The current NXT North American Champion pointed to his success since debuting in NXT in 2022 and noted an appearance at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XII in November 2024 as further proof of his growing résumé.
