NJPW Sale Finalized: TV Asahi and CyberAgent Assume Majority Ownership
New Japan Pro-Wrestling confirmed the sale of Bushiroad’s stake at the end of June, with TV Asahi and CyberAgent now each holding roughly 46.3 percent of the company and NJPW operating as a consolidated subsidiary of TV Asahi while receiving support from CyberAgent. President Hiroshi Tanahashi addressed fans in a video, promising to grow the brand using TV Asahi’s broadcast reach and CyberAgent’s digital platforms, and reassuring supporters that NJPW will maintain its working relationship with Stardom despite Stardom remaining under Bushiroad.
Bushiroad transferred 3,550,200 shares to TV Asahi and 6,950,200 shares to CyberAgent in a deal valued at about 3.6 billion yen (roughly $22.6 million). NJPW will leverage TV Asahi’s video library and national television exposure alongside CyberAgent’s Abema streaming and wrestling assets (NOAH, DDT, Tokyo Joshi Pro) as it looks to rebuild post-pandemic momentum and elevate emerging stars to fill arenas worldwide.
