AEW finalizes Redemption, Dominik Mysterio reveals his AAA alliance with Omos, Dragon Lee suffers an injury and Konosuke Takeshita leads the G1.

AEW completed the lineup for Sunday’s inaugural Redemption pay-per-view as Nick Wayne and El Clon claimed the final two positions in the International Championship No. 1 Contender’s Ladder Match.

Elsewhere, Dominik Mysterio betrayed El Grande Americano and aligned himself with Dorian Roldán and Omos, Dragon Lee withdrew from AAA competition because of a torn thumb ligament and Konosuke Takeshita took sole possession of first place in the G1 Climax A Block.

Nick Wayne and El Clon Complete Redemption Ladder Match

Wayne defeated longtime rival AR Fox to qualify for the six-way Ladder Match that will determine the next challenger for the AEW International Championship. El Clon claimed the final opening by defeating ROH World Television Champion Lio Rush, although he used the ropes for leverage during the deciding pinfall.

The Young Bucks defeated Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta before Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley attacked their Redemption opponents. Tommaso Ciampa also defeated Zachary Wentz before promising that his No Holds Barred Match against Chris Jericho will become violent.

AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla and TBS Champion Hikaru Shida gained the final advantage over their challengers by defeating Willow Nightingale and Maya World. Shida struck World with her kendo stick while the referee was distracted, allowing Thekla to finish the match with a spear.

What to Watch at AEW Redemption

Kenny Omega will defend the AEW World Championship against TNT Champion Kevin Knight in the main event from the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Knight already sent a message by attacking Omega with the TNT Championship and leaving Dynamite holding both belts. Omega now has to determine whether Knight’s association with Don Callis has made him more dangerous—or simply more vulnerable to the same manipulation Omega experienced for years.

Five other championships will be defended, while Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay attempt to coexist against The Young Bucks. The International Championship picture will also be shaped by Kyle Fletcher’s defense against Bandido and a six-way Ladder Match featuring several potential challengers. The Buy-In begins at 6 p.m. ET, followed by the main card at 7 p.m. ET.

Dominik Mysterio Aligns With Omos and Dorian Roldán

Mysterio promised to help El Grande Americano survive their main event against Daga and Angel of Los Perros del Mal. Dominik claimed he wanted to protect Americano because the two are scheduled to meet for the AAA Mega Championship at TripleMania 34.

That promise lasted until Americano desperately attempted to make a tag. Dominik stepped off the apron and walked away, leaving his future challenger to fight both opponents alone. Daga eventually pinned Americano after a diving double stomp.

Mysterio stopped on the stage and was joined by Roldán and Omos. Dominik shook hands with both men, confirming an alliance that could influence far more than his upcoming championship defense.

La Hiedra and Laredo Kid also defeated Lola Vice and Mr. Iguana to win the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship. Earlier in the show, Rey Mysterio rejected Roldán’s demand that the vacant AAA Latin American Championship be awarded to Omos.

Rey also announced that Penta will return to AAA on August 15, with his appearance connected to the ongoing situation involving Los Perros del Mal.

Dragon Lee Withdraws With Torn Thumb Ligament

Lee revealed that he tore a ligament in his thumb during Monday’s Raw tag team match. Medical testing confirmed the injury, and WWE instructed him to return home rather than continue traveling to the AAA taping.

Lee had been scheduled to face La Parka and Mecha Wolf in a qualifier for the vacant AAA Latin American Championship. The winner was supposed to advance to the championship match at TripleMania. No timetable has been announced for Lee’s return.

The injury comes at an especially frustrating time for Lee. He had recently received more exposure across WWE and AAA programming, but will now lose at least one significant opportunity while the company determines the severity of his recovery.

Konosuke Takeshita Claims Sole G1 Lead

Takeshita defeated Boltin Oleg to reach six points and move into sole possession of first place in the G1 Climax A Block.

The defending G1 winner survived Oleg’s power before connecting with two running knees and Raging Fire for the victory. Every other active wrestler in the block finished the night with either four or two points, giving Takeshita his first separation from the field.

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji defeated Shingo Takagi in the main event, ending a two-match losing streak. SANADA defeated Jake Lee by countout, while Great-O-Khan used another low blow to defeat Hirooki Goto.

Redemption arrives with several matches capable of reshaping AEW before All In. Omega against Knight provides the most obvious championship question, but Moxley and Ospreay attempting to function as partners could have consequences stretching far beyond one pay-per-view.

Dominik’s alliance may be even more consequential for AAA. Roldán already has Omos providing physical power, and adding the Mega Champion gives his side authority inside the ring that Rey Mysterio cannot easily counter.

Dragon Lee’s injury removes another WWE representative from the Latin American Championship tournament. It also creates an opening for someone else at TripleMania, making AAA’s next qualifying decision more important than originally planned.
