Jason Hotch shocks Mustafa Ali, the Motor City Machine Guns join AEW, Nigel McGuinness enters the Continental Cup and SmackDown goes title for title.

Jason Hotch completed one of TNA’s biggest recent upsets by defeating the leader of his own faction for championship gold.

The Motor City Machine Guns officially arrived in AEW, Nigel McGuinness entered a new tournament and Friday’s SmackDown will determine the final participant in SummerSlam’s ladder match.

Jason Hotch Shocks Mustafa Ali to Win TNA Gold

Jason Hotch defeated Mustafa Ali in Thursday’s main event to capture the TNA International Championship.

Ali attempted to use every available advantage against his Order 4 subordinate. He pulled the referee into Hotch’s path, delivered a low blow and used Hotch’s own belt as a weapon.

The balance shifted when John Skyler took the belt away from Ali and Tasha Steelz prevented the champion from using the ropes during a pin. Mila Moore fought with Steelz at ringside, leaving Ali and Hotch to decide the championship themselves.

Hotch survived Ali’s 450 splash, connected with a stomp and landed a frog splash to win the championship. He then celebrated with his wife and daughter as Impact went off the air.

TNA Impact Results — July 30, 2026

Slater pinned X-Division Champion Cedric Alexander and challenged him to defend the title inside a steel cage at Lockdown. Hartwell advanced to face M by Elegance in the Knockouts Television Championship Tournament, while Stone will meet the winner of Mara Sadè against Heather by Elegance.

TNA also confirmed several matches for Lockdown. The Hardys will defend the World Tag Team Championship against Nic and Ryan Nemeth, Nic Nemeth will defend the TNA World Championship against Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy will face Ryan Nemeth.

Hotch’s victory represents more than an unexpected championship change. Ali lost because the people he had repeatedly mistreated finally refused to protect him. Hotch now has the championship, but Order 4 may no longer have a functional leader.

What to Watch on WWE SmackDown

• WWE Tag Team Championship and AAA Tag Team Championship – Damian Priest and R-Truth vs. The War Raiders
• Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match Qualifier – Giulia vs. Lash Legend.

The final SmackDown before SummerSlam will feature a title-versus-title match between the WWE and AAA Tag Team Champions.

Damian Priest and R-Truth will place the WWE Tag Team Championship against the AAA Tag Team Championship held by Erik and Ivar of The War Raiders.

Giulia will also face Lash Legend for the final position in Sunday’s Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match. Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green and Charlotte Flair have already qualified.

The qualifier gives Giulia and Legend less than two days between earning the opportunity and entering a ladder match against four established opponents. Neither woman will have much time to recover or adjust her preparation.

The tag-team match could also create one championship team across WWE and AAA. Priest and Truth have survived as an unlikely pairing, but The War Raiders bring the size, experience and established chemistry to end that run before SummerSlam begins.

Motor City Machine Guns Are All Elite

Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley opened Thursday’s Collision by making a surprise hometown appearance in Detroit and officially announcing that the Motor City Machine Guns are All Elite.

The former WWE Tag Team Champions later returned with steel chairs after the Death Riders attacked the Bang Bang Gang. Their involvement immediately placed them inside one of AEW’s largest faction conflicts.

AEW also introduced the Continental Cup, a 16-man single-elimination tournament beginning August 8. Matches will be determined through a random draw and contested under Continental rules. The final will take place at All In on August 30, with the winner leaving Wembley Stadium as Continental Champion.

Nigel McGuinness became the first wrestler to announce his entry into the tournament.

• Hazuki, Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor defeated Athena, Billie Starkz and Diamante
• Juice Robinson, Ace Austin and The Gunns defeated Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, PAC and Wheeler Yuta
• Kris Statlander defeated an enhancement wrestler
• Komander defeated Jay Lethal
• Will Ospreay defeated Daniel Garcia.

Mark Davis attacked Ospreay after the main event, leading to the announcement of a Mexico Street Fight between the former United Empire partners at Grand Slam Mexico. Outside interference will be prohibited.

AEW also added The Young Bucks, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage against the Death Riders to Grand Slam Mexico. Místico, Chris Jericho and Darby Allin will face Kazuchika Okada, Kevin Knight and Hechicero.

Signing Sabin and Shelley gives AEW another proven tag team, but the company should resist treating them as nostalgia guests. The Machine Guns can still strengthen the division through programs with teams such as FTR, The Young Bucks, Cage and Cope and the Bang Bang Gang.

The Continental Cup gives McGuinness another chance to extend his comeback while providing AEW with a tournament whose stakes are immediately clear. The winner will not receive a future opportunity. He will leave All In with the championship.

CMLL’s Leyenda de Plata Tournament Concludes

Máscara Dorada and Komander will meet Friday in the final of CMLL’s 2026 Leyenda de Plata Tournament.

The tournament honors the life and career of El Santo, with the winner receiving a commemorative plaque. Dorada previously won the tournament in 2023 by defeating Rocky Romero.

Two women’s championships will also be defended. India Sioux will put the Mexican National Women’s Championship against Thunder Rosa, while Persephone will defend the CMLL Women’s World Championship against Tessa Blanchard.

CMLL Viernes Espectacular — July 31, 2026

Komander enters the tournament final after defeating Jay Lethal on Collision, giving him an opportunity to carry momentum from Detroit into one of CMLL’s most prestigious annual matches.

The two women’s championship matches also connect directly to AEW. Thunder Rosa can return with championship gold, while Persephone must recover quickly from her unsuccessful challenge for Maya World’s TBS Championship.

ESPN Introduces a WWE Moment of the Night Championship

ESPN will introduce a custom championship recognizing the “Moment of the Night” from WWE premium live events.

The award can recognize the most impactful performance, storyline development or match moment rather than necessarily going to a match winner. The title will debut as part of ESPN’s SummerSlam coverage and will also appear in fan content, creator collaborations and on-site activations.

ESPN will select a Moment of the Night following both nights of SummerSlam.

The concept gives ESPN another recurring piece of content surrounding WWE events without creating an actual championship that must be defended through storylines.

It also gives wrestlers outside the main events a chance to receive additional recognition. A major return, unexpected betrayal or standout performance could win the award even if it does not involve Roman Reigns, CM Punk or another world champion.

Hotch’s victory gave TNA a championship change supported by months of internal conflict. Ali’s control over Order 4 had already begun slipping, and the loss may finally break the faction apart.

AEW used Collision to strengthen its roster and establish its next major tournament. Sabin and Shelley can immediately contribute to the tag division, while McGuinness gives the Continental Cup a recognizable first entrant.

SmackDown now carries the responsibility of completing the SummerSlam lineup. Giulia and Legend are competing for the final opening, while the two tag-team champions could reshape the relationship between WWE and AAA before the weekend officially begins.
