Phantom Blade Zero shows off its combat, Star Wars: Zero Company drops its final trailer and Disney reveals its live-action Tangled.

D23 may be over, but the nerd-news calendar did not exactly take Monday off.

Sony gave Phantom Blade Zero nearly twenty minutes to prove its combat is more than beautiful trailers, Star Wars: Zero Company entered its final launch push, and several Disney announcements from the weekend are still worth pulling out of the avalanche.

Phantom Blade Zero Shows What Twenty Minutes of Combat Actually Looks Like

S-Game used Monday’s dedicated Phantom Blade Zero State of Play to show off the action RPG’s combat systems, weapon variety, difficulty options, side quests and the larger martial-arts world surrounding protagonist Soul. The showcase also detailed Donnie Yen’s involvement as both a creative consultant and the facial and motion-capture performer for Soul’s father, Mó Yuan. Phantom Blade Zero launches October 29 on PlayStation 5.

This was the presentation the game needed. Short trailers have never been the problem. Phantom Blade Zero has looked spectacular almost every time S-Game has shown it.

Twenty minutes is different. That is long enough to start asking whether the combat has variety, whether exploration actually matters and whether the game still looks interesting once the camera stops cutting every three seconds.

So far, the answer looks encouraging. And bringing Donnie Yen into the actual combat-development process instead of simply paying him to appear in a trailer gives the kung-fu influence a little more weight.

Star Wars: Zero Company Drops Its Final Trailer

Lucasfilm and Electronic Arts released the final trailer for Star Wars: Zero Company on Monday ahead of the tactical RPG’s August 27 launch. The Clone Wars-era game puts players in command of Hawks and a customizable squad that includes clone troopers, Jedi, smugglers and other specialists, with relationships and battlefield decisions shaping how the team develops throughout the campaign.

We are officially past the point where Zero Company needs another explanation. It is XCOM with a Star Wars toolbox. That remains one of the smartest game pitches Lucasfilm has made because Clone Wars storytelling naturally supports a squad-based strategy game better than another chosen-one action adventure.

The interesting test comes when somebody in the squad you have spent twenty hours developing gets killed because you made one terrible tactical decision. If Bit Reactor is willing to make those losses hurt, Zero Company could occupy a space Star Wars games have barely touched.

Live-Action Tangled Reveals Its Cast and First Footage

Disney’s live-action Tangled will arrive in theaters March 31, 2028, with Teagan Croft starring as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. Kathryn Hahn plays Mother Gothel, Caitríona Balfe is Queen Arianna, Elliot Cowan plays King Frederic and Diego Luna has joined the film as a new character named Hawthorne. Disney showed the first footage during D23, including live-action versions of several costumes from the 2010 animated film.

Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel feels like Disney discovering a cheat code. That is one of those casting decisions where almost nobody needs convincing once the name is attached to the role.

The larger question is the same one surrounding every Disney remake: what is the new movie giving audiences besides actors recreating images they already know? Tangled has enough personality to survive the transition. Now Disney needs an actual reason to make it again.

The New Simpsons Movie Gets Its First Look

Disney used D23 to reveal the first footage from The New Simpsons Movie, bringing Springfield back to the big screen nearly two decades after the original Simpsons Movie arrived in 2007. The presentation offered attendees an early look at the sequel, which is being positioned as another theatrical event rather than an extension of the television series.

Twenty years between Simpsons movies somehow feels both absurdly long and completely appropriate. The show itself never left, so there has never been nostalgia created by absence.

That means another movie needs to justify why this particular story requires a theater instead of becoming episode number 800-and-something. The first film managed that by making Springfield itself feel bigger. The sequel needs its own version of that idea.

Otherwise, Homer is just doing something expensive on an unusually large screen.

The Bluey Movie Heads to Theaters in 2027

Disney and BBC Studios revealed the first teaser for The Bluey Movie, which will open theatrically on August 6, 2027. The feature-length story follows Bluey and the Heeler family through what is being described as one unexpectedly eventful day, expanding the enormously successful television property into its first theatrical film.

You do not have to be the target demographic to understand how gigantic this movie could become. Bluey has achieved that rare status where parents appear to like the show almost as much as the children supposedly watching it.

That makes a movie less like a risky expansion and more like the natural next step. The smartest thing Disney can do is avoid “making it cinematic” by destroying what works. Bluey does not need to save the world. She needs to be Bluey for ninety minutes.

What to Watch

The immediate gaming calendar remains busy even after Monday’s Phantom Blade Zero showcase. Star Wars: Zero Company launches August 27, while Gamescom Opening Night Live arrives August 25 before the convention itself runs August 26–30 in Cologne.
