Bandwagon Nerds News Report (8/19/2026): Fast Forever Rolls, Crystal Lake Gets Bloody and Game Pass Reloads

Fast Forever starts filming in December, Crystal Lake promises bloody horror and Xbox Game Pass reveals its second wave of August games.
D23 is finally behind us, which means Bandwagon Nerds can return to the rest of the entertainment universe.
Vin Diesel says the final mainline Fast & Furious movie is ready to start shooting, Linda Cardellini is promising a properly nasty trip back to Crystal Lake, and Xbox Game Pass has another batch of August arrivals ready to go.
It’s the Bandwagon Nerds News Report for August 19, 2026!
Fast Forever Begins Shooting in December
Vin Diesel says Fast Forever, the 11th and final film in the mainline Fast & Furious franchise, is scheduled to begin filming in December. Diesel said the screenplay went through four years of development and four groups of writers before reaching a version he felt was worthy of ending the saga. The movie is currently scheduled for March 17, 2028.
At this point, “final Fast & Furious movie” deserves roughly the same skepticism as “one last job.” Still, there is something fitting about Diesel being emotional over the screenplay.
This franchise somehow evolved from stealing DVD players into a superhero saga about cars, international espionage and the gravitational force of family. If Fast Forever really is the ending, the movie does not need to get bigger. That may not even be physically possible.
It needs to remember why people cared about Dom, Brian and the crew before somebody started launching Pontiacs into space.
Crystal Lake Promises Plenty of Blood
Linda Cardellini says Peacock’s upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake will lean heavily into practical gore when the eight-episode show premieres October 15. Cardellini plays Pamela Voorhees, with the series exploring her life before the events of the original 1980 film.
That sounds considerably more promising than trying to turn Friday the 13th into eight hours of somebody simply running from Jason. Pamela is where the mythology actually begins.
Giving the franchise room to explore grief, obsession and whatever turns her into the woman audiences eventually meet at Camp Crystal Lake could make this more than a stretched-out slasher.
The blood still matters, obviously. Nobody wants prestige television to completely ruin the fun.
Xbox Game Pass Reveals Its Second August Wave
Microsoft revealed the second wave of Xbox Game Pass additions for August, with Vapor World: Over the Mind, Blood Dungeon and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy among the day-one releases. Additional titles joining across various tiers include BlazBlue Entropy Effect X, Relooted, Starsand Island, Aerial Knight’s DropShot and Young Guns.
Resonance is the one that immediately stands out. A Plague Tale built its identity around a very specific combination of historical drama, stealth, rats and emotional trauma. Turning that universe in a new direction is risky.
It is also considerably more interesting than simply making A Plague Tale 3 and hoping everybody wants to suffer through another thirty hours with the same formula. Game Pass remains especially valuable when Microsoft uses it to make experimentation easier.
The Witcher 3 Is Leaving Game Pass
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition will leave Xbox Game Pass on August 31 alongside Another Crab’s Treasure, I Am Your Beast, Neon Abyss and One Lonely Outpost. Subscribers can purchase departing titles at a discount before they leave the service.
This is the subscription-service version of realizing the library book you have ignored for six months is suddenly due tomorrow. And The Witcher 3 might be the worst possible game for procrastination.
You are not knocking that thing out over a long weekend unless your family files a missing-person report. The broader reminder is useful: subscription libraries provide access, not ownership. If Geralt has been sitting on your “eventually” list, eventually now has a date attached to it.
Pokémon Go Launches Its Ultra Unlock Water Festival
Pokémon Go launched its Ultra Unlock: Water Festival on August 18, with the event running through August 24. The event introduces Arrokuda, Barraskewda and Cramorant while increasing encounters with a variety of Water-type Pokémon.
There are two kinds of Pokémon Go players at this point. The people who stopped playing years ago.
And the people Niantic could announce “Psyduck is wearing a slightly different hat” to and immediately get them outside walking three miles. Respectfully, the second group has won.
Almost ten years later, Pokémon Go is still finding reasons to send people outside hunting digital monsters. That is a pretty ridiculous lifespan for what many originally treated like a summer fad.
PlayStation Plus Adds Kingdom Come and Vampire Survivors
The August PlayStation Plus Game Catalog expanded Tuesday with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Vampire Survivors. Premium members also received the PS2 classic Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams and Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
That is an impressively strange combination. You can spend dozens of hours carefully navigating medieval politics and historically grounded combat in Kingdom Come.
Or you can spend thirty minutes walking around while increasingly ridiculous amounts of glowing nonsense explode around you in Vampire Survivors. Sometimes gaming does not need thematic consistency. It just needs options.
Gamescom Opening Night Live Is One Week Away
Gamescom Opening Night Live takes place August 25 at 11 a.m. PT, kicking off the next major industry showcase before Gamescom runs in Cologne. The presentation is expected to include world premieres, gameplay reveals and updates from major publishers.
This is why the post-D23 lull is going to last approximately five minutes. Gamescom traditionally sits in a useful spot on the calendar.
Summer announcements have had time to breathe, fall games are close enough to show substantial gameplay and publishers already need to start planting seeds for the following year.
For fans, that means another large wave of trailers is almost here. The difference now is that several games we have spent months talking about are finally becoming playable while the next batch gets announced behind them.
