Sons of Anarchy reunites for a bizarre FX spinoff, Scary Movie gets its Paramount+ date and NYCC reveals a massive 2026 lineup.

Sometimes the entertainment industry announces a reboot. Sometimes it announces something considerably weirder.

Wednesday gave us a Sons of Anarchy reunion where the actors will apparently play themselves, a streaming date for the latest Scary Movie, new Jackbox releases and the first major look at New York Comic Con’s enormous 2026 programming slate.

Sons of Anarchy Is (Sort of) Returning

FX has ordered Legends, a limited meta-thriller created by Charlie Hunnam that will reunite much of the original Sons of Anarchy cast. Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Rossi will play fictionalized versions of themselves attending a fan convention where they become caught in an actual dangerous situation.

That is significantly more interesting than trying to resurrect Jax Teller. Hunnam has been pretty clear that Jax’s story ended.

This allows FX to exploit the affection people still have for Sons of Anarchy without pretending the original ending did not happen. It is also wonderfully strange.

A cast famous for playing violent motorcycle outlaws now plays actors famous for playing violent motorcycle outlaws who suddenly find themselves in real danger.

That either becomes clever as hell or completely collapses under its own gimmick. Either way, it is not boring.

Scary Movie Hits Paramount+ September 3

The newest Scary Movie will begin streaming on Paramount+ on September 3, following its theatrical and digital runs. The sixth installment brought back franchise veterans including Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans while parodying the current generation of horror movies.

Streaming feels like the natural second life for Scary Movie. Comedy franchises like this were built for the era when people would stumble across them while flipping channels and watch forty minutes despite already knowing every joke.

Streaming is basically the modern version of that behavior. The more interesting question is whether the theatrical success convinces Paramount that the franchise is fully alive again.

Because nobody resurrects a horror property more effectively than a comedy franchise designed to make fun of horror properties.

Jackbox Sets Its Next Round of Party Games

Jackbox Games revealed new release information for The Jackbox Party Pack 12 and the standalone Trivia Murder Party 3 on Wednesday, continuing the company’s expansion beyond its traditional annual bundle model.

Jackbox found one of the most durable multiplayer formulas in gaming by making the controller something almost everybody already owns. Your phone.

That sounds obvious now. It was not obvious when Jackbox first built an entire party-game ecosystem around it. Trivia Murder Party becoming strong enough to support another standalone release also shows how individual games have begun becoming brands inside the larger Jackbox brand.

There are considerably worse problems than having too many concepts people want separately.

New York Comic Con Reveals a Loaded 2026 Lineup

New York Comic Con’s first announced programming for October 8–11 includes Marvel Television, DC’s Jim Lee & Friends, Star Trek, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Dexter: Resurrection, American Horror Story, Futurama, Bob’s Burgers, The Walking Dead and several major horror presentations. The convention celebrates its 20th anniversary this year at the Javits Center.

That is less a convention schedule and more four days of nerd triage. The most interesting part may be how broad NYCC has become. This is not simply comics plus whatever Hollywood wants to promote anymore.

Games, anime, streaming franchises, horror and traditional comic publishing are all competing for the same fan attention.

The Final Fantasy VII Revelation panel alone should generate significant interest because the full English voice cast and director Naoki Hamaguchi are scheduled to discuss the final game in the remake trilogy. October suddenly looks quite busy.

Paramount-Warner Merger Could Cost Thousands of L.A. Jobs

A Los Angeles County-commissioned study estimates the proposed Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger could eliminate approximately 4,500 film and television production jobs in Los Angeles over three years, with broader economic losses potentially extending well beyond direct production employment.

This is the side of giant entertainment mergers that gets buried beneath conversations about which streaming service gets Batman. Consolidation looks clean on a corporate presentation.

It looks considerably different to the people whose jobs become redundant once two companies become one. Fans understandably care about where movies, DC projects, HBO shows and Paramount franchises eventually live.

But the industry producing those things is made of actual workers. If thousands of those jobs disappear, viewers eventually feel that consolidation too.

What to Watch: Gamescom Is Almost Here

The next major gaming-news wave arrives with Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, followed by the convention itself in Cologne. The show is expected to deliver new trailers, gameplay demonstrations and announcements heading into a crowded fall release calendar.

The timing is ideal. Several summer announcements are finally becoming games people can actually play, while publishers need to start selling everything coming this fall and beyond.

That means Gamescom sits directly between hype cycles. Fans should expect plenty of sequels, release-date reminders and at least a few announcements nobody successfully leaked beforehand.
