Marvel’s Wolverine reveals brutal new gameplay, Fable shows off style-weaving combat and Disney+ lands a new Pokémon stop-motion series.
Gamescom may be winding down.
The gaming news apparently did not get the message.
Insomniac gave fans one of their most detailed looks yet at Marvel’s Wolverine, Playground Games showed how combat will work in Fable, and Disney just made another enormous move involving Pokémon.
It’s the Bandwagon Nerds News Report for August 29, 2026!
Marvel’s Wolverine Shows Its Claws
Insomniac Games revealed a new Marvel’s Wolverine features trailer detailing Logan’s combat, Rage system, customizable abilities, suits and claws ahead of the game’s September 15 PlayStation 5 launch. Wolverine will fight enemies including Omega Red and Lady Deathstrike while working with Jean Grey and members of Team X against Bolivar Trask.
The best news remains that Insomniac does not appear interested in making Spider-Man with claws.
Wolverine should feel different. Closer. Meaner. Less interested in bouncing around the environment and considerably more interested in going directly through whoever is standing in front of him.
The Rage system sounds particularly appropriate because Wolverine combat should feel increasingly dangerous the longer somebody makes the mistake of fighting him. September 15 is suddenly very close.
Fable Explains Its Style-Weaving Combat
Playground Games showed an uninterrupted Fable gameplay sequence Friday centered around its “style-weaving” combat system. Players can freely combine melee attacks, ranged weapons and magic, including spells capable of manipulating enemies or temporarily turning them into chickens. Fable launches February 23, 2027.
There it is. Turning somebody into a chicken. Now it feels like Fable.
The important part of Playground’s presentation is that player personality apparently extends beyond dialogue decisions. A hero can fight like a tank, manipulate the battlefield with magic or blend everything together depending on the situation.
That sounds much closer to the identity longtime Fable players have been waiting to see. You are not simply choosing what kind of hero the story says you are. You are choosing what kind of lunatic walks into combat.
Disney+ Orders New Pokémon Stop-Motion Series
Disney+ has greenlit a new Pokémon stop-motion series as part of a broader global distribution agreement with The Pokémon Company. The deal expands Pokémon programming across Disney’s streaming platforms while introducing an original stop-motion project.
Pokémon has spent three decades proving that there is almost no format it cannot survive. Games. Anime. Trading cards. Live action. Now Disney gets stop-motion.
The more interesting part is the larger relationship. Pokémon does not need Disney to become globally recognizable. Disney absolutely understands the value of adding one of the most recognizable entertainment brands on Earth to its streaming ecosystem. That is a pretty powerful combination.
Willem Dafoe and Peter Dinklage Join Lincoln in the Bardo
Willem Dafoe, Jonathan Bailey and Peter Dinklage have joined the voice cast of the animated adaptation Lincoln in the Bardo, which stars Tom Hanks as Abraham Lincoln. The project adapts George Saunders’ acclaimed novel about the spirits surrounding Willie Lincoln after the death of the president’s young son.
That is an absurd amount of voice talent. Hanks. Dafoe. Dinklage. Bailey. The material is also strange enough to justify assembling something that distinctive. This is not traditional historical drama.
It is grief filtered through ghosts, memory and an increasingly surreal afterlife. Animation may actually make more sense for that world than trying to force everything into conventional live action.
Tom Hardy Made a Comic-Book Rap Album Because Of Course He Did
Tom Hardy released Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer, a new rap album packed with comic-book and movie references. Hardy performs under his longtime Frankie Pulitzer identity, including references to Bane, Green Goblin and other genre characters throughout the project.
Some celebrity side projects feel carefully manufactured. Tom Hardy making a weird rap record about comic-book villains does not. Hardy has been recording music since before most audiences knew who he was, which makes the whole thing considerably less random than it initially sounds.
Still, the man who played Bane releasing bars about Bane is precisely the kind of entertainment-news sentence Bandwagon Nerds exists to appreciate.
Star Wars: Zero Company Is Now in Players’ Hands
Star Wars: Zero Company launched Thursday on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Bit Reactor’s turn-based tactical game follows former Republic officer Hawks and a customizable squad investigating a mysterious faction called The Coil during the Clone Wars.
The XCOM comparison was always unavoidable. That is not an insult. Star Wars is almost absurdly well suited to squad tactics because the universe already contains clearly defined classes, factions, weapons and specialists. The more important question is whether players become attached to the people inside that squad.
Turn-based games become considerably more memorable when losing a soldier feels like losing somebody rather than losing a stat sheet. Zero Company finally gets to find out whether it pulled that off.
Xbox’s September Starts With Vampires
Xbox’s upcoming release schedule includes The Blood of Dawnwalker on September 2, beginning a busy first week of the month for Xbox and PC players. The dark fantasy RPG takes place in 14th-century Europe after vampires exploit the devastation created by war and the Black Death.
That game continues having one of the easiest pitches in the fall calendar. Medieval Europe…Black Death…Vampires take over…Good luck.
The former CD Projekt Red developers at Rebel Wolves have repeatedly emphasized player choice and time management as central systems.
That is what will determine whether Dawnwalker becomes more than another visually impressive dark-fantasy RPG. The vampires are the hook. The decisions need to become the game.
What to Watch
Gamescom continues through Sunday in Cologne, but the larger gaming calendar immediately keeps moving. Marvel’s Wolverine arrives September 15, Silent Hill: Townfall follows September 24 and Ghost of Yōtei’s Echoes of Sekigahara expansion arrives October 1.
This week gave fans plenty of trailers. The next month starts delivering the actual games. That is always the healthier phase of the hype cycle. A trailer can promise almost anything. Once somebody buys the game, marketing loses control of the conversation.
