Nigel McGuinness got what he wanted. The journey that started with simply proving he could wrestle again now ends at Wembley Stadium with a championship opportunity waiting.

And Jon Moxley is standing across from him.

Meanwhile, Will Ospreay used AEW’s final Dynamite before All In to make his fight with Kenny Omega intensely personal.

Nigel McGuinness Is Going to Wembley

Nigel McGuinness defeated Kyle O’Reilly by submission Wednesday in Glasgow to advance to the Continental Challenge Cup final at AEW All In. McGuinness survived extensive attacks on his previously injured leg before forcing O’Reilly to submit to the London Dungeon.

There it is. Wembley. This tournament has worked because everyone understood Nigel was chasing more than another victory. He wanted the stadium. He wanted the match he never thought his body would allow him to have. Now he gets it.

That does not mean AEW should suddenly turn the final into a sentimental victory lap. Quite the opposite. The story only works because Jon Moxley is waiting to ruin it.

Jon Moxley Beats Claudio Castagnoli

Jon Moxley defeated fellow Death Riders member Claudio Castagnoli by referee stoppage in the other Continental Challenge Cup semifinal, putting Castagnoli to sleep with a bulldog choke after a physical match between two wrestlers who know each other better than almost anyone else on the roster.

This was exactly why the random tournament draw mattered. Moxley did not get to avoid his own people. He had to eliminate one of them. Now he goes from fighting somebody who knows all his tricks to fighting someone who has spent years studying wrestling from the commentary desk.

Nigel has the emotional story. Moxley has absolutely no obligation to respect it.

That makes Sunday considerably more interesting.

Will Ospreay Makes It Personal With Kenny Omega

Will Ospreay opened Dynamite with an emotional address to the Glasgow crowd, reflecting on British wrestling and the road that brought him to Sunday’s AEW World Championship match with Kenny Omega. Ospreay said his respect for Omega disappeared after Omega referenced Ospreay’s son during their confrontation last week and promised to bring the championship home at Wembley.

This feud did not need another argument about star ratings. It needed this. Ospreay has spent much of his career being compared to Omega. Better. Worse. Replacement. Successor.

Now the issue is not theoretical. Omega crossed a line Ospreay considers personal.

That turns Sunday from a referendum on who is the better wrestler into something considerably easier to understand. One man believes he is protecting his legacy. The other believes he is protecting his family.

Mercedes Moné Attacks Willow Nightingale

Mercedes Moné attacked AEW Women’s World Champion Willow Nightingale backstage before Willow could address the Glasgow crowd. The assault came four days before Nightingale defends the championship against Moné at All In.

This is where Mercedes works best. She does not need another speech about being the CEO. Everybody knows who she thinks she is. Attacking Willow before she even gets to the ring communicates the important part considerably faster:

Mercedes does not believe Wembley belongs to the champion. She believes Willow is temporarily holding something that belongs to her. Sunday decides whether that confidence is justified.

Swerve Strickland Beats Jack Perry

Swerve Strickland defeated Jack Perry in Wednesday’s main event, finishing Perry with Big Pressure after a competitive match. The two acknowledged each other afterward before AEW closed its final Dynamite ahead of All In.

This was less about creating another feud and more about establishing where Swerve stands heading into Wembley. Perry pushed him. Swerve still won. Sometimes wrestling does not need a betrayal afterward.

Two wrestlers can compete, establish who was better that night and move onto whatever comes next. Considering how much chaos AEW already has scheduled Sunday, restraint was probably useful.

Chris Jericho Enters the Casino Gauntlet

Chris Jericho announced Wednesday that he will participate in the Casino Gauntlet at All In. Mark Davis was also confirmed for the match, joining a field that already includes MJF, Andrade El Idolo and other contenders fighting for a future championship opportunity.

Casino Gauntlet matches work because every additional name changes the possibilities. Jericho brings history. MJF brings manipulation. Andrade brings momentum. Davis brings somebody capable of simply flattening whoever happens to be standing there when he enters.

The format makes predicting the winner almost secondary to predicting who comes through the curtain next. At Wembley, that uncertainty should become part of the spectacle.

TNA Impact Begins the Road to Bound For Glory Tonight

Thursday’s TNA Impact airs from the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario, with the company beginning its post-Lockdown road toward Bound For Glory. Jada Stone and M by Elegance will meet in the final of the tournament to crown the first TNA Knockouts Television Champion, while Elijah faces Bear Bronson and Indi Hartwell returns to action after declaring her interest in the Knockouts World Championship.

This is the right kind of post-pay-per-view episode. Lockdown settled several issues. Impact immediately starts creating the next ones. The new

The cage is gone, but the consequences are not.

For the AEW faithful, Glasgow did not need to create another month of television. It needed to make Wembley feel unavoidable.

And that’s exactly what it did.
