Sami Zayn wrecks SmackDown’s No. 1 contender match, Nikki Bella attacks Paige and AEW reaches the final night before All In at Wembley.

Sami Zayn apparently has a simple solution to CM Punk needing another challenger.

Nobody gets one.

Friday’s SmackDown ended with Sami destroying Punk, Kevin Owens, Gunther and Finn Bálor while preventing WWE from determining a new No. 1 contender.

Nikki Bella also made her intentions toward Paige extremely clear, and AEW has reached the final night before All In at Wembley.

Sami Zayn Prevents CM Punk From Getting a Challenger

Friday’s main event between Kevin Owens, Gunther and Finn Bálor ended without a winner after Sami Zayn interfered in the Undisputed WWE Championship No. 1 Contender’s Match. Sami pulled Bálor from the ring, attacked multiple referees and eventually used Punk’s championship to lay out Owens, Bálor, Gunther and Punk before declaring that nobody would receive another title opportunity.

This version of Sami is becoming considerably more interesting than somebody simply obsessed with getting his championship back. He has decided the entire title picture is illegitimate.

If Sami cannot receive justice, nobody else gets progression. Owens cannot move forward…Bálor cannot move forward…Gunther cannot move forward.

Even Punk cannot escape him. That turns Sami from challenger into obstruction. WWE now has an entire main-event scene united by one shared problem.

Nikki Bella Returns to Attack Paige

Nikki Bella returned Friday and attacked Paige after Paige failed to capture the Women’s United States Championship from Jacy Jayne. Paige lost after interference from Fatal Influence before Nikki struck from behind and dropped her with the Rack Attack 2.0.

There is no ambiguity left. This is not awkward tension between former friends. Nikki waited until Paige had already wrestled a championship match and then attacked her neck. That is malicious enough to make the eventual match incredibly easy to understand.

The history creates depth. The attack creates the reason to fight now. Sometimes wrestling really is that simple.

Jacy Jayne Retains the Women’s United States Championship

Jacy Jayne defeated Paige to retain the WWE Women’s United States Championship after Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid repeatedly interfered around ringside. Paige appeared to have Jayne positioned for the Ram-Paige before the distraction allowed Jayne to score the deciding pin.

Fatal Influence did exactly what a champion’s faction is supposed to do. They made beating Jacy require beating everybody.

That protects Paige without making the championship feel secondary, and it gives Jacy another successful defense while WWE moves Paige toward the considerably more personal issue with Nikki. The belt keeps moving, and so does Paige.

Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton Make It (Even More) Personal

Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton traded increasingly personal insults Friday while remaining bound by Nick Aldis’ stipulation that whichever man initiates physical contact before their September 6 Sunday Night’s Main Event match will lose the ability to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Orton targeted Cody’s mother and wife, while Rhodes responded by bringing Bob Orton Jr. into the argument.

This is a much more effective use of the no-contact stipulation than having security guards stand between them for three weeks. Neither man physically touched the other. They still managed to make the rivalry nastier.

Orton wanted Cody angry enough to throw away his future title opportunities. Cody realized what he was doing and turned the same tactic around. Now both men arrive in Atlanta having already demonstrated exactly where the emotional pressure points are.

Tatum Paxley Wins Her SmackDown Debut

Tatum Paxley defeated Michin Friday in her first SmackDown match, finishing her with Cemetery Drive after previously competing primarily within NXT. This is the right way to introduce somebody moving into a larger role. Not an elaborate coronation. Not six weeks of promises. Win a wrestling match.

Paxley now has something tangible underneath whatever WWE decides to do with her next. Main-roster audiences saw her wrestle. She won. Everything else can build from there.

Also of note: three women’s matches on SmackDown this week–that is definitely worth noting…and repeating.

AEW All In Is One Day Away

AEW All In takes place Sunday, August 30 at Wembley Stadium in London, with Will Ospreay challenging Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship and Willow Nightingale defending the AEW Women’s World Championship against Mercedes Moné. Nigel McGuinness will also face Jon Moxley in the Continental Challenge Cup final.

The emotional center of the show is easy to identify. Ospreay gets Wembley. Nigel gets Wembley.

Neither story requires either man to win. That is precisely why both matches work.

Ospreay has spent years being compared with Omega and now receives the largest possible stage to either surpass him or discover that the comparison still has an answer he does not like.

Nigel has already won something simply by getting back into that stadium as an active wrestler. Jon Moxley could not care less. Those are very different stories sharing the same building.

AEW Collision Is the Final Stop Before Wembley

Saturday’s Collision was taped Wednesday in Glasgow and serves as AEW’s final television episode before All In. With spoilers already circulating online, viewers who want to enter Sunday unspoiled should be particularly careful Saturday.

That creates a slightly strange final night. AEW already completed its major live All In build on Dynamite. Collision now operates more like the final exclamation point.

There is nothing left to substantially rebuild. Omega and Ospreay know what they are fighting for. Nigel and Moxley know what they are fighting for. Willow and Mercedes know what they are fighting for.

Saturday simply has to avoid giving fans a reason to care less before Sunday.

WWE SmackDown Results — August 28, 2026

Friday’s SmackDown left the Undisputed WWE Championship without a new No. 1 contender while creating a much more direct conflict between Paige and Nikki Bella.

Friday essentially allowed Sami Zayn to hijack an entire championship division. Nobody won the contender’s match because Sami decided nobody deserved to. Paige’s championship pursuit abruptly became secondary because Nikki Bella gave her something more personal to solve.

And across the Atlantic, AEW is out of television time.
