Tavion Heights and Myles Borne meet in the locker room.

Tavion says he needs Myles to lock in, this is the biggest match of his life! Myles asks what’s going on. You know he can’t hear. Tavion says not the time for jokes! This is Tavion’s first championship they’re going for. Myles says relax, they’re locked in. He could become double champion while his best friend finally gets his first, they’re going all out. That is what Tavion needed to hear. They hug it out, and Tavion says he doesn’t know if they don’t win tonight. Myles says relax. Tonight, they will be the NEW NXT Tag Team Champions, baby! They dap it up, but will they pull off the win? Or will Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes swipe left on new champions being crowned?

Tony D’Angelo is here!

The fans cheer as the NXT Champion heads to the ring. Tony grabs a mic as he steps into the ring, and he says last week, Grayson Waller came out here, disrespecting him, disrespecting everyone in the back, and disrespecting this brand. Now he thinks he’s gonna use Tony’s title like a boomerang to get back to the main roster and get what he thinks he’s owed? That he’s gonna use Tony as a stepping stone? Tony won’t let that happen, and he damn sure won’t let Waller talk trash without consequences. See, they go way back, Waller is old news. Tony has new business with Cruz Montana. Mistake or not, Montana still laid Tony out.

Now last week, Montana made his intentions clear, so maybe he can come out here so they can- Waller says he’s bored already! Waller is up in the perch as he says spoilers: Tony is gonna talk about respect, Montana’s gonna come through the crowd and talk about the streets. But let’s talk SummerSlam Weekend! Who was everyone talking about? Grayson Waller! He’s the money fight, so Tony and that title go through him. Tony says hey, everybody, it’s Grayson Waller. Look at him! Talking trash from afar like usual. Why not come into the ring so they can talk man to man? Oh, Tony knows why Waller won’t: It’s cuz Waller’s a b*tch!

Now, don’t get your panties in a wad over your own career. Tony will give everyone a quick history lesson. Tony and Waller used to be pals, teammates, back in the 2.0 days. Remember that WarGames match? Let’s go through who else was in that match: Bron Breakker, a champion; Carmelo Hayes, a champion; Trick Williams, not actually in the match, but a champion; Tony D’Angelo, the current champion! Waller…? Nothing. At least be honest with yourself. Waller came back to NXT to make himself relevant again. He wants the title, but unfortunately for him, Tony’s champion. Waller says wow, has Tony been practicing?

And you wanna talk relevancy? In the last week, the fans have been talking more about the NXT Men’s Division than ever, and that’s cuz of Waller! You’re welcome. And Tony had a week, did nothing. Waller knows Tony lost the family, but he didn’t know he lost his balls, too! But at least Tony came out here and has some energy, some fire, unlike that soft roster that ran to their phones. There’s a bunch of guys tweetin’- WAIT, here come Cruz Montana! Granted, just as Waller said, he’s in the crowd. “Ey yo, NXT, what’s good?!” The fans cheer and chant “BORICUA!” Montana says at no point did he hear the champ call Waller out here. But now that he’s here, here’s this work!

Montana says last week, Waller rattled cages, sure. Montana gives props for that, he was once in Waller’s shoes. The only thing is, Montana didn’t try to clown nobody or bitch ‘n’ moan to the world. He just put in the work! He proved week after week and month after month that he is the man he says he is, baby! And Waller has a chip on his shoulder because his nice and comfortable life wasn’t as nice and comfortable as he’d like. Montana has a chip on his shoulder cuz he’s got no other option! You feel him? It was either this or become another statistic of the same block he still lives on.

Waller “yawns” to mock the talk, but Montana hopes ‘n’ prays for Waller’s sake he never meets the man in the mirror that he went to war with. Montana wants Waller to think on that when he’s rehearsing his corny ass comebacks. The difference here is that Montana spent years proving he belongs. Waller spent years trying to prove to others that they should notice him. Waller says he doesn’t get why Montana cares about the people, their opinion doesn’t matter. The fans boo but Waller asks how many times Montana will tell the same sad story. Yes, he conquered his demons, congrats. But Waller’s got demons, but he’s embracing them and it feels good.

So all this fire from Cruz? Waller’s gonna piss all over it. Montana says Waller’s a funny guy. But the problem is, Waller only fights for himself. But straight up, it won’t get you nowhere. But when you have people that depend on you, that you gotta feed, that hold you accountable, that’s what makes you a man, homeboy! That’s what makes you unstoppable, homeboy! Tony says alright, alright, he doesn’t care what either of their motivations are, they both want the same thing: his title. Talk to Robert Stone, make a match, and Tony will see the winner at Heatwave. Tony heads out, will it be Montana or Waller bringing the heat to Houston?

Wren Sinclair and Kendal Grey talk backstage.

Wren says it feels like The Great American Bash, but also not, because they’re both defending titles but with way more at stake. Especially with Kendal going into the Underground to face Lola, and maybe they’re in over their heads. Why is Kendal so calm?! Kendal says it’s fine! They wanted this. They wanted to be champions, they wanted this pressure. Wren is up next, she’s gotta lock in. Wren says yeah, and they double high-five. Wren heads out, Kendal right behind. Can Wren survive five minutes with the Agent of Change? Or will Zaria make herself a double champion?

OTM meets up backstage.

Bronco Nima apologizes to Lucien Price for last week. He took his eye of the ball, that cost them against BirthRight. Price says he ain’t gotta apologize, you gotta do what you gotta do for your boys, right? Nima says that’s right. So long as they’re good. Yeah, Nima’s got his backup plan in AAA, Price just has to find his on NXT. What? But then BirthRight steps in and Lexis King says tough week for OTM. Morale’s high for BirthRight, though. What do they want? Lexis says he just wanted to remind them he was right. OTM is crumbling, they’re not as close as they thought. Price says how about he and Lexis get close in 1v1. Uh, no, Price needs to get his shot in a Speed Tournament.

Price says he don’t give no damns about a tournament. Oh, but aren’t they a tag team? Price wants to run solo? Price says Nima has his plan, Price just found his. Price heads out, will Mr. Stone give Price the same chance we just saw for Zaria?

Kelani Jordan encounters Grayson Waller backstage.

The Standout appreciates the radical honesty from the Aussie Icon. And he’s right about the 10% ready for the roster being all the ladies. But… Waller’s already had plenty of opportunities at the Men’s Championship while Lani is still waiting on hers. When she finally gets it, she’ll do something even Waller couldn’t, and that’s win the title on her very first try. Oh, hey, Lani, don’t miss. She won’t. Lani heads out, but Mason Rook steps in. He ain’t soft! He moved halfway across the world, same as Waller. Plus, Rook is twice the size of Waller, and can do things in the ring Waller can only dream of doing. So why not meet in the ring and Waller will see just how “soft” Rook really is.

Waller says Rook thinks he knows Waller’s story, huh? Rook doesn’t know what sacrifice is! Wait until you go through puberty, for one. But then KAM HENDRIX ATTACKS! Showtime goes after Rook and Waller cheers him on! Security rushes in, but will these two just have to settle things in the ring?

Is the One Man Demolition Crew going to make sure EK never prospers again?

Lizzy Rain finds The Culling backstage.

Izzi Dame is surprised to see The Maiden of Metal, and says her luck’s been at an all-time high lately. She can thank Shawn Spears, though, cuz he’s mad that Niko & Izzi kicked him out of his own group. Niko says he’ll handle Spears. Izzi hopes Lizzy knows things would’ve been a lot different without Spears. Lizzy says that is bullocks, luck is for losers, and Izzi simply lost. Izzi says Lizzy needs to learn her place. Oh, like The Chair Man, right? Spears steps in and says he knew they’d pull something like this. Niko’s gonna handle Spears and Izzi’s gonna handle Lizzy, is that it? Then good thing they’re on the same page, because Spears just talked with Mr. Stone.

Next week, MIXED TAG! Niko asks Spears, didn’t he used to say, “Quit while you’re ahead?” Spears never takes his own advice. But next week, whatever tricks Spears pulls, Niko will see it coming. Well, we’ll see. The Culling leaves, and Lizzy isn’t sure she can trust Spears. If things go sideways, it’ll be 3v1 real quick. Lizzy heads out and Spears says, “Smart girl.” But can Spears help Lizzy rock ‘n’ roll right through The Culling? Or will the painful truth be that Spears is risking a lot keeping this fight going?

DarkState meets backstage.

Cutler James asks Osiris Griffin if Dion Lennox is alright. They thought winning the Six Man was gonna get him out of the funk, but… It might’ve made things worse. Yeah, Stone told them Dion gets his rematch with Saquon next week, but you know how it is. Dion feels he’s got something to prove. Dion heard that part. Got something to prove, never satisfied, is that it? Well, Osiris & Cutler are starting to see it that way. Dion doesn’t need to bother with Saquon. Dion says no, he got put through a wall! Saquon wasn’t trying to win the match, and c’mon, they call that a win? Well, they got their hands raised at the end, what more does he want?

What does Dion want? What does Dion always want? For DarkState to be untouchable! They cannot be content beating the team that got thrown together a week before the match while Saquon out there still walking. They used to be champions! They used to be feared, dammit! Y’all heard what Waller said! You cool with being called complacent? Dion ain’t. And if they are, then what’re they doing here? Waller is NOT right about them. So next week, Saquon does not walk away because they’ll make sure of it! When DarkState strikes, ain’t nobody safe! The three fist bump on that, but what won’t they do to get back on top?

Shiloh Hill speaks.

Via his Instagram, he lets us know, “Man, adrenaline is one hell of a drug. I say that because after I beat Tristan Angels last week, I pretty much felt like everything was alright. Then I tried to like blow my nose, and my whole face filled with air. Turns out during the match, I fractured part of my skull called the maxilla, which is definitely a rare type of fracture. But unfortunately, this one, it might be a little while before you guys see my face back in the ring.

“Speaking of weird injuries, though, kinda confused by this guy, Kam Hendrix, and his hurt knee. He said he had a lateral meniscus issue, but those definitely don’t heal that fast, so he was either lying about the extent of the strain, or about being like ‘107%’ medically cleared or whatever. I kinda get it, honestly, this is my first time never not being medically cleared to work out, and I’m already so bored. I’m just doing like random research. For instance, I knew Kali Armstrong went to USC, but I didn’t know she set a world record in the sprint.

“Oh, and he’s a cool wrestling rabbit hole to go down. When Chad Gable won the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam, I started doing some research on the IC title, and that Pat Patterson was the first-ever Intercontinental Champion. A lot of people know that. Officially, he won the title in a tournament in Brazil, but the weird part is, there’s no footage of the tournament happening, and there’s no pictures of any part of the tournament, and there’s no eye witnesses that saw the tournament actually occur. I dunno, that one sounded alarm bells in my head.

“Oh, another one that’s kinda weird. You guys know the mist? Like, the mist that Asuka and Shinsuke a couple times and Naraku spray outta their mouths? So I though that was something that was taken from Japan, but did you know that it actually started in Texas? Yeah, super weird. It started with The Great Kabuki in the 80s, then he brought it back to Japan, passed it on to The Great Muta and Tajiri, and it became a bigger part of Japanese wrestling, and eventually was brought back to America. It’s name in Japanese, though, is Doku Kiri, and it translates to ‘Poison Fog.’ Now we’re talking.

“Anyways, that’s all I got for you right now. I should probably put out this out anyways.” Shiloh takes care of his campfire, but when and where will he be on fire back in the ring?

WWE mourns the loss of Dory Funk Jr.

Robert Stone is on the phone.

The NXT General Manager says himself that the person on the other end is a free agent and is available. Perfect for him! He def wants to talk. Cruz Montana steps in, Stone tells him that surely he heard, next week is Montana VS Waller in a #1 Contender’s match. Montana nods, Stone finishes his call, but Tristan Angels steps in. “Cruz Montana, you have some nerve!” Mr. England doesn’t appreciate people just walking in here and getting their chance to compete for the NXT Championship. That is something you have to earn! Montana asks, “Who’s new?” Uh, Montana is new, duh!

Montana says when he was putting in work here last year with Great American Bash, with Showdown, MSG, Angels wasn’t here. How long as Angels been here? Three months. Wow, three months. And Montana’s the new guy? Montana leaves but will he indeed earn his opportunity by overcoming the Aussie Icon? Or will he suffer the Grayson Waller Effect?

NXT Women’s Championship Underground Match: Kendal Grey VS Lola Vice!

These two have gone around a few times, from Madison Square Garden’s controversial finish to Stand & Deliver’s Triple Threat, and now in a match with no ropes and no pinfalls. Will the Grey Area still be golden after tonight? Or will Lola prove she’s still Queen of the Underground?
