Star Wars Marvel Hope Assembles

Star Wars officially crosses over with Marvel, Wolverine gets a limited PS5 and Elder Scrolls VI resurfaces with a rare development update.

Marvel and Star Wars are finally doing something that somehow took nearly 50 years to happen: officially putting their characters together.

Elsewhere, PlayStation is giving Wolverine his own limited-edition hardware, The Elder Scrolls VI has resurfaced with a rare development update and Rosario Dawson almost returned to the MCU.

It’s the Bandwagon Nerds News Report for August 12, 2026!

Star Wars and Marvel Officially Cross Over

Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm have announced Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, the first official crossover between the two fictional universes.

Kevin Smith will write the five-issue limited series with artwork by David Marquez. Beginning in January 2027, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca will encounter Marvel heroes including the Avengers and Spider-Man, while Darth Vader and Doctor Doom will also become part of the event.

Disney owning both properties made this possible, but that does not automatically make it a good idea.

The attraction is obvious. Vader meeting Doctor Doom and Luke interacting with Marvel superheroes creates the kind of imagery fans have imagined for decades.

The key is keeping it special. Five issues celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Wars feels like an event. Turning Marvel and Star Wars crossovers into a routine occurrence would quickly remove what makes this one interesting.

Wolverine Gets His Own Limited-Edition PS5

Sony has unveiled limited-edition PlayStation 5 hardware inspired by Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine.

The Battle Yellow PS5 Digital Edition bundle arrives September 15 alongside the game and includes a matching yellow DualSense controller. Wolverine-themed console covers and an Adamantium-inspired design for PS5 Pro owners are also part of the collection.

The yellow Wolverine look is exactly the kind of design Sony should use for special-edition hardware.

Players buying a limited console generally are not looking for subtlety. They want something that immediately looks different from the standard machine.

More importantly, the hardware reinforces how important Wolverine has become to PlayStation’s fall lineup. Insomniac turned Spider-Man into one of Sony’s most valuable gaming franchises. September will reveal whether Logan can occupy similar territory.

The Elder Scrolls VI Gets a Rare Playable Update

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma revealed Tuesday that she recently watched a live playthrough of Bethesda’s long-awaited The Elder Scrolls VI.

Sharma praised the game’s scale, grandeur and story. Her social-media post also listed eight asterisks after the title, immediately creating speculation that Bethesda may be hiding an eight-letter subtitle.

Simply knowing somebody outside the immediate development team can sit down and watch the game being played feels significant after years of limited information.

But Bethesda has to be careful.

Every vague clue surrounding The Elder Scrolls VI becomes news because fans have received so little concrete information since the original 2018 announcement. Eventually, Microsoft needs to replace hints with gameplay, a setting and some understanding of when people can actually play it.

For now, knowing that a playable game exists behind the curtain is progress. It just cannot remain the marketing strategy forever.

Rosario Dawson Filmed a Spider-Man Cameo That Was Cut

Rosario Dawson revealed that she filmed a scene as Claire Temple for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the appearance did not make the finished movie.

Dawson said she had already prepared behind-the-scenes material to celebrate the return before learning that her scene had been removed. Claire Temple previously appeared throughout Marvel’s Netflix-era shows, including Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and The Defenders.

The deleted appearance is interesting because Claire would have provided another small bridge between Marvel’s former Netflix shows and the modern MCU.

Marvel does not need to restore every character simply because Daredevil has become important again. But Claire was one of the connective characters who made those shows feel like they occupied the same corner of New York.

If nothing else, fans now have another deleted scene to look for when Brand New Day reaches home release.

Marvel’s Doomsday Comic-Con Stunt Comes With a Huge Fine

Marvel Studios’ massive Avengers: Doomsday Comic-Con advertisement has reportedly resulted in a $160,000 fine.

The promotional installation covered San Diego’s recognizable Gaslamp Quarter sign and became one of Comic-Con weekend’s most photographed displays.

From a marketing perspective, Marvel probably received exactly what it wanted.

The display became part of the visual identity of Comic-Con weekend and appeared constantly in photos and social-media posts surrounding Doomsday.

The $160,000 question is whether the attention was worth the trouble. Studios can turn Comic-Con into an enormous advertisement, but San Diego still has to function after everybody carrying a superhero badge goes home.

Phantom Blade Zero Gets Its Own State of Play

PlayStation will hold a dedicated Phantom Blade Zero State of Play on August 17 featuring nearly 20 minutes of new gameplay.

The presentation will give players an extended look at S-Game’s upcoming action RPG ahead of its October 29 release.

A dedicated State of Play is a meaningful vote of confidence.

Phantom Blade Zero has generated attention through its fast martial-arts combat, but extended gameplay is where players can determine whether that spectacle translates into something satisfying to control.

August 17 should give the game enough uninterrupted time to prove it is more than an impressive collection of combat animations.

Marvel and Lucasfilm finally crossed their universes. Bethesda allowed the public to hear that The Elder Scrolls VI is being played internally. Sony is treating Wolverine like a genuine hardware-level event.

The danger is assuming anticipation lasts forever.

A crossover still needs a worthwhile story. A limited console needs a great game attached to it. And after eight years of waiting, an Elder Scrolls tease eventually has to become something fans can see for themselves.
